    ww hosting and SSH access

    Short story:

I checked out lypha.com for hosting, seemed good to my friend and I. Before I ordered, I noticed that you had to send an e-mail to them with a valid reason for SSH access, otherwise you just get access to their control panel and FTP. Sounds good, so we ordered & payed.

So I send the e-mail, explaining I need access to perl/c/c++/python compilers. A few minutes later, they e-mail me back saying I have to pay $10 and fill out an official form with my reasons for wanting access.

Anyone here ever have this problem? What did you do? What should I do?

I mean, WTF... it never said you had to pay $10... then I asked...

    Sigh.

Any other decent host just gives you SSH. Look around and cancel what you just ordered. A lot of people like godadddy, I just don't like their interface.

Since when? I was helping a guy with his account less than 2 weeks ago and it was confusing just to get into to change his email settings.

Really? I just created a new hosting account/domain for a side project and the GUI was different than when i set my other one up a few months back. I found everything to be easy accessed and straight forward....

I pay a little less than $9/mo but I get quite a bit more than you. Then again, I need a lot of the extras, so I'm definately willing to pay a little more. And I'm still getting more than what you get for $10/mo with godaddy.
