The Bible: Electronic Edition
Well I've decided on Alethia (Greek for "truth"). My favorites were Swordfish and DWORD.
The project will be hosted on sourceforge (up in 2 days or less) - http://alethia.sourceforge.net/
I have some memory leaks and some more touch-ups to do, but version 1.0 will hopefully be up by the end of the month. Bookmark that page, download it when it's released, and tell me what you think. It's only for Windows right now, but there will eventually be Linux/UNIX/Mac versions.
Thanks for the suggestions (yea and the jokes too)!
I didn't notice any non-joke suggestions :PQuote:

Hm, there might be something to this.. the iGod Shuffle is compact and gives you a different bible verse every time you run it, and the trademark mouse that comes with it will let everyone know that you read the Bible in style!
i hovered my mouse pointer over it , does that count?Quote:

Try it and tell me what you think.
I spelled it Aletheia instead of Alethia. This release is only for Windows, but I'll release one for Linux later on.
It's 4:00 AM. I'm going to bed :-)
For what it's worth ChadJohnson, I think thats a fantastic idea for some software (and I've never even read a Bible).
Looks good to me. Simple, user-friendly, no annoying splash screen or 5 minute "Please wait, loading bible now". A few suggestions for future features:
1) A table of contents feature
2) A GUI button for "next chapter"
3) A way to save notes on certain passages, or even just to highlight them
4) Highlighting of search terms in displayed search results
I look forward to future updates :)
nice program chad :)
Hunter had some good ideas and here is 1 also :)
Mayb create a spot for people to put their favorite scripts or have a notepad to the side for adding this
Looks good so far, keep it up

What kinds of things might be in a table of contents?
I'm planning on doing a highlight feature - should I have it highlight the entire verse that the search result points to, or should I just have it highlight the keywords?
I'm also planning on notes entry.
For favorite verses/passages, should I have it actually highlight the favorites as they come up? For instance, if I've marked John 3:16 as a favorite, and John chapter 3 is looked up, would it be good to have it highlight it (in color different from search highlighting)?
Well, for Table of Contents I was just thinking perhaps a collapsible tree-view sort of thing:
The only problem with this, is that it requires the bible file to include titles at various places within chapters.. I know many bibles do, but I'm not sure if they're part of the translation or if they're just added later, and if they're not part of the bible itself then this won't work. If that's the case, you might try just putting a list of books in the table of contents, with each being a hyperlink sort of thing linking to the first chapter/verse of the book.Code:Genesis
1.
i) Creation
ii) Adam and Eve
...
2.
i) Abraham
ii) ...
...
Exodus
...
Leviticus
...
etc.
About highlight, it's really up to you - usually search engines just highlight the keyword, although that sometimes takes away from the context. Perhaps you could highlight the whole verse, with the search term in a different colour.
I like the favourites idea, maybe you could have it put a '*' at the beginning or end of the quote, and if you click the '*' then it highlights the verse? Also you might like to experiment with enclosing it in []. Best yet, have several options for the user to choose :D
Hey, your first bug report. If you don't select the version before looking something up it crashes.
oh yea, can i get a copy of that icon?
