Last Final Fantasy game I played all the way through was VII. Is X really any good? Aren't they online nowadays or something?

Oh yeah? The night NCAA Football came out last fall, I played an entire season the first night I had it. 14 games. The second season took about 2 days. All in all, I played 6(?) seasons in the 2-3 months I was playing the game solidly.

PS all the FF games suck

    Never played it.

FF is crap - real good RPGs are way less linear than any of those, that I've seen. Give me either of the Fallout games or Morrowind anytime. I want a game where I feel like I actually affect the world, besides going from point A to random combat B to point C.

I don't like turn based combat, thats what killed it for me... the only game with turn based fighting i will play is "Dragon Warrior" for NES.

Yeah, that was one of the things that drove me nuts about any of the FF games, always just felt like you were watching a movie you never had any control of. If thats what you like then great, but if actually want to ROLE PLAY your role playing game, look elsewhere, Morrowind being the best IMO.

I don't know if this is going to be the norm from here on out, I doubt it, but the the latest FF game was a MMORPG. Not a very good one if you ask me, far better is World of Warcraft.

I like turn based combat just fine - like I said, Fallout was one of my favorite games. It was the rest of the game that sucked, to me.

To me, it's not really an RPG if it's not turn-based combat. Then you're just playing an adventure game that keeps track of more stats.

And I really liked the fact that FFVII felt like a movie, because it felt like a really good one. I think it's good for games to allow you to decide which side you're on like KOTOR, but I hardly see the point in playing an MMORPG where you walk around aimlessly half the time or any RPG in which your goals are hazy. I either want to save the world or conquer it. I have no interest in building up wealth or forming complex relationships.

    > To me, it's not really an RPG if it's not turn-based combat.

So you don't think Morrowind's an RPG? How about some of the more recent D&D games with real time combat. The only difference between turn based and real time combat is the amount of time you have to plan your next move. I don't see how that makes one an RPG or an adventure game. Hell, using your logic, turn based war games are RPGs - you're trying to save/conquer the world, they keep track of statistics, and it's turn based.

    > I have no interest in building up wealth or forming complex relationships.

Then you're not "playing" much of a "role", are you? FF's pretty much as deep as a rail shooter, then.

I like a happy medium, I love Morrowind and the FF series, FF mainly for the story, Morrowind for the random gameplay (like pillaging people's houses and selling their things at the local store so I can buy better swords)

I prefer playing the role of an epic hero on an epic quest. That's what FFVII and KOTOR have to offer.

As for turn-based versus real-time, I think that real-time combat makes the game more about reaction time and button-smashing than strategy. In the original FF, I had to carefully distribute my attacks to make each and every one of my turns count, and I enjoyed that. But when I play Fable, there's little strategy other than keep swinging your hammer until everything's dead.
