    File Format collection?

I'm looking for some source(s) of file format descriptions. For gmax and/or halflife mdl in particular). Wotsit aint much of help and I'm not having much luck on google either (mainly finding free models sites).

free 3d meshes, free membership required:

    Renderosity Meshes mostly for Poser.
they have a collection of links to other similar sites, such as runtimedna, 3dcommune,poser pros, 3darena....

to read a gmax file, open it in notepad. I beleive that Discreet just used an ascii file format. ( they did for gmax's daddy app, 3D Studio Max. )

I was referring to Paul's comment, Magos. You said that Wotsit was no good and what did he give you...?

The thing about the .MDL format (I'll assume that you mean Half-Life 2) is that while it isn't clearly documented on the net, you can find out how it works by studying the source code provided in the HL2 SDK (Available from Steam), which has the source of some of the tools they used. If you're searching for it in VC++.NET, remember to open Everything_SDK.sln instead of Game_SDK.sln.

The .MDL format for HL1 is also used in its SDK, in case my assumption is wrong. Should be able to find someone else's source for it though by now, much better.

    Dunno about gMax.
