Yes, because having your high price machine sitting there doing nothing a lot of the time isn't a waste...

hrm... I guess you didn't actually read it:
The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, remains a mystery. Moreover, perhaps not surprisingly, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious effects, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

Bottom line, it's a great thing and one day the work your computer did could contribute to the cure of a deadly disease. Why not help out?

Um...according to the page when I checked this morning, we're still at 604.
    Code:
    Grand Score 310677
    Work Unit Count 2300
Team Ranking (incl. aggregate) 604 of 39167
If I did your homework for you, then you might pass your class without learning how to write a program like this. Then you might graduate and get your degree without learning how to write a program like this. You might become a professional programmer without knowing how to write a program like this. Someday you might work on a project with me without knowing how to write a program like this. Then I would have to do you serious bodily harm. - Jack Klein

If "curing cancer" can be considered a waste, then yes.

That's odd. So 5 teams blew past us?

Look at the detailed stats. I think they're updated more often. We're at 599... have been since early today.
