There is a fairly suitable explanation on their front page, is there not?

yeah i saw that but, i forgot to edit my post.. but isn't this kind of pointless waste of your CPU?Quote:

Yes, because having your high price machine sitting there doing nothing a lot of the time isn't a waste... :rolleyes:Quote:

Bottom line, it's a great thing and one day the work your computer did could contribute to the cure of a deadly disease. Why not help out?
We just broke in to the top 600 :)
Um...according to the page when I checked this morning, we're still at 604.Quote:

If "curing cancer" can be considered a waste, then yes.Quote:

-edit-
We're 605 now :(
We're about to overshoot Hotmail, and close to carnegie mellon, buahahah
Look at the detailed stats. I think they're updated more often. We're at 599... have been since early today.
ok, I finally signed up. Could one of you give me some words of advice and explanation? my question is...is a 1000 fram WU a big one...it looks like it is big because it is said to complete in 20days!! is there any way I can switch to smaller WU? also, for those on XP are you using graphical or console version?
It looks like the official page is updated more often, judging by the total score we have there vs the total score we have on the detailed stats page. Or am I missing something?
I think it depends sometimes I have WU of 2500 frames and they go pretty fast , sometimes I get WU of 250 frames and compared to the one of 1000 or 2000 something it goes slow :rolleyes:Quote:

I'm on XP using the graphical.Quote:

You can get bigger (and more point-worthy) WU's if you find the checkbox that says "Allow receipt of work assignments and return results greater than 5 MB in size". It's under the Connection tab of the Configure menu option.
Yeah axon... it'll help the team more (but may be more memory intensive for you) if you select that option. And I recommend the GUI version. It's easier to use.
I think the official page is generated as you access it... try checking it right after you complete a WU and you'll see it in action.Quote:

This is kind of neat.
Our trend line is going down :(
Kinda crazy that we've only been doing this for about 3 months and we've jumped so far :)
I agree, we're doing really well so far! I think we can definitely get more members though, seeing as we have over 15k users here...I would think we could get more than just 40 people.Quote:

Seconded.Quote:

On the main site would be awesome. :)
*waits for the 5 WU posting requirement*
C'mon...;)
I suck because my PC is almost always on and it's taken me this long to sign up. I'm Dick_Manslam.
edit: Jesus, 10 days for my first WU. Is that normal?
Could be if its a 600 point one - depends on how fast your machine is I guess.
When it initially starts, the time is usually off. Make sure you check "allow >5mb WUs". It'll rack up points faster with that checked (but your WUs will take a little longer to finish).Quote:

Judging by this page it's going to take us about a year or two to get in to the top 100 at this rate :(
jverkoey, you may replace the first outString block in your sig with the following:PHP Code:$outString="TheJeffFiles.com<BR><BR>";
$outString.="Team Cprog Folding@Home: Team #43476<BR>";
$outString.="Download it Here<BR>";
$outString.="Detailed Stats Here<BR>";
$outString.="Detailed Stats II<BR>";
$outString.="$MemberCount Members so far, are YOU a member?<BR>";
$outString.="Current team score: $GrandScore (ranked $OurTeamRank of $TotalTeams)<BR><BR>";
Updated again.
I'm leaving tomorrow morning on a 34 hour bus ride back to where I used to live to visit friends, so I may or may not be able to run F@H for the next 2.5 weeks. Regardless, keep up the good work everyone! :D
heh... if you have a WEP-enabled cell phone, check out http://www.johnshaoonline.com/misc/p...oardstyled.php for some basic stats - maybe you'll be able to see when we break 99%
my phone's been timing out on that page recently though...
That's right jverkoey - and you're next alphaoide!
gg
way to beat somebody who stopped running it temporarily :p
I just installed f@h on my work PC, so that's an extra 40-50 hours a week of time.
40-50? You don't leave it on at nite?
I leave it on, but it's not logged in, so it wouldn't be running.
Is it running Windows or a *nix variant?
Windows XP
Shoot. I tried finding a Windows equivalent of the UNIX 'nohup' command, but I did not find anything definitive, short of installing coreutils for windows. Oh well.
Do you have to log out? I usually just lock my workstation (Ctrl-Alt-Del -> Lock) instead of logging out. It would continue running in that case.Quote:

We're slowly approaching 500... should be there middle of next week I'd guess.
Woo, just got back from vacation and fired up folding@home again. Nice to see I have so many points with so few WUs.
it's nice to see the member list getting longer and longer every day... (probably thanks to some 'advertisement' from some of the team) :D
edit: for now I'm using (almost) the same code that generates jverkovey's sig on entropysink, and that'll be updated about once/day.
The thing I don't understand is that we're gaining members, but our Weekly total is dropping! I know some members are on vacation right now, but still!
jverkoey, If you're around, here's another sig update:that should replace the end of the code, starting right after that last for loop. I figured it'd be easier for others with the last update time/date in there.PHP Code:$today=date('D\, d M\, Y \@ g\:i A T');
$outString.="<BR><BR>Last Updated on: ${today}";
$outString.='';
echo($outString);
?>
updated.
It looks like our production has slipped a bit. I guess its a poor time of year - people getting ready for school maybe?
Ok I've started up again and somehow am at 9% (it must save even after you uninstall).
Well, it looks like part of the problem is that xterria isn't running Folding@Home on as many machines as in the past.
I started running it again, although my comp is not on all the time due to electrical bills, which will change within 1 month when im back at college :D.
Due to electric bills? Mine hasn't gone up much because of running FAH.
What is this thread all about? ::confused::
Read the thread? :rolleyes:Quote:

You obviously missed the discussion about the meaning of that on ES.
Well normally I put my system on standby or shut it down completely when I go to sleep. But when running FAH I rather keep my system running all night trough.Quote:

I haven't shut down my comp for a while because I run FAH all the time on it. I left for 2 and a half weeks and didn't make much progress. Now I should be able to churn out some WUs at a good rate and head towards the top!
All right ober...that's enough of a lead. As of right now, you are 6358 points ahead. I'm turning on the rest of my machines. Let's race.
Only 1097 days ober!
kermit has had a rather impressive ascension as well.
gg
kermit is kickin ass.... and what's with everyone ganging up on me? I didn't do anything! ;)
:confused: Just got another WU - 250 frames long. It says itīll finish within 1355 Days 2 hours and 23 Minutes...
It says it takes 7805m/frame ... I just hope this information is wrong , and if not ill be getting some wicked points for this one, once itīs finished - within 3,5 years :D.
This is the protein it is folding: p1141_RIBO_FSpeptide_HEL_nospring
I'm at 1350/5000, should be done by Labor Day :D
It's going by fast now that I turned it up all the way and set it to high priority in the configuration.
GanglyLamb, they always look like they'll take forever when you start one. If you look at it about 10 minutes into the WU, the details should be more correct.
And 7smurfs, if you're getting WUs that high, you probably haven't checked the "Allow > 5mb WUs". You'll get more points, but the WUs will take a little longer and you won't do as many.
There isn't an option like that in the Win98 version, unless I'm missing something in the config :(Quote:

Oh... didn't realize you were using 98.
And ya'll are sooo done. You'll never catch me now. I just got a new proxy address that will work with our firewall at work and I've just setup 2 more pcs.
According to the detailed stats, we're #495! Top 500 and climbing baby!
W00t! :D :D
Let's aim for top 300 now!Quote:
