    >>Considering the fact that every OS now trys to have "windows"

    The concept of "windows" in a GUI environment has been around a LOT longer than MS has.

    Not even MSVC++?

    I have no beef with microsoft. I use there supposed crappiest OS(Windows ME). I really don't have any issues. I run my compie for weeks at a time and rarely have a "jam". Linux is also fun though I do enjoy that console feel .

    Wasn't it first introduced by Apple/Macintosh?

    Microsoft is sheer genius.

    Their business practices are not.

    I'd say roughly the opposite.
    The word rap as it applies to music is the result of a peculiar phonological rule which has stripped the word of its initial voiceless velar stop.

    Evil

    I would have said that Microsoft was a nessecary evil... I mean it seems to be the easiest GUI OS to use and as such has a nearly complete monopoly on computer users OS.
    I mean honestly if you stuck an old age pensioner on a computer for the first time he/she is more likely to be able to use windows then any other OS. It's just a shame that serious computer users are stuck with an OS that at times can be very annoying with either its knack for commiting suicide (surely you have seen this phenomena) or its babyish point and click system with cartoony graphics.

    As for using Windows ME it started out fine on my PC but as the computer got older it slowly died and crashed very frequently. Also if you look on the back of game cases or other software it's surprising how often they are compatable with every single Windows version except for ME.

    The modern GUI was actually invented by Xerox PARC. Steve Jobs (of Apple) did some shoulder-rubbing and got permission to spend some time there, subsequently stealing it.

    I don't think the labs are still going anymore. Imagine if they'd come up with something more commercially viable than the Xerox Star?
