Google: How to make a great app no one can use

Has anyone tried Google Desktop Search? I have downloaded it twice and each time I have been told it is 'not compatible' with other applications on my computer - which are always my virus scanners! It seems it gives you two options:

    1) Don't use google desktop search, but keep your files safe.
    or
    2) Get a great searching experience with GDS, but have no files to search for after all the viruses have finished with you.

When you go to their help center, the great help they offer is "uninstall the conflicting program".

Don't their developers use virus scanners?

(I tried with NOD32 and VET AntiVirus. I paid for NOD (at home) and we use VET at work)

I went and downloaded it after reading this thread. I use Norton Antivirus. Right now it is in 'indexing' mode so I can't actually use it just yet, but the installation went fine. Well, the only thing that went "wrong" was that the installation had to close firefox. Did you at least get to the indexing phase of it?

Nope, soon as I ran the installer it said one of my DLL's (that belong to NOD32) is incompatible and I'd have to uninstall NOD before continuing. My guess is NOD would detect it as a virus, but surely it could just ask me and I'd say "why no, Mr NOD, it's not a virus "

The problem is, that would make life too easy, and we just can't have that now can we?

I really don't know what to say or do.

I tried it on my work computer... which has NOD installed. It works fine. Then again, I tried it 2+ months ago... they could have changed it.
