    How eating effects your sleep

My dad allways complains about the way I eat before sleep, he says it is bad for me and that food does not get processed well. I know this also depends on what you eat, but just how much does it matter if you eat before sleep and what types of foods make a difference?

From what I've heard if you eat and go to bed soon after more of the food ends up being stored as fat, since you're not using it to make energy.

It seems to for some people, and having food go straight to fat instead of being processed normally sure seems unhealthy to me.

Either way it is unhealthy. You should be "getting your body ready for bed" as well as your mind.

Ok, well is it a good idea to go to bed on an empty stomack?

no... You're supposed to try to eat in a way that you won't be hungry when you go to bed without eating just before you go to bed... the best way to eat is several small meals throughout the day rather than a few bigger meals.

I eat before I go to bed all the time and my parents claim it's bad for me too.

It is bad for you generally. It also tends to wake people up more depending on how much you eat. Basically I hear thats the way sumo wrestlers eat. They eat a few large meals and tend to sleep after them. So yes its not the healthiest thing to do.

I really hate it when mom's and dad's make their children worry about things that are relatively harmless. Even if you eat before going to bed everynight for the rest of your life no serious harm will come to you. If, in general, you eat reasonably well and stay relatively physically active, you'll be fine.

    edit:
the worst thing I can see is that the digestion process can keep you awake at night.
