Any idea what the weak link was?

Glad the site is back up so quick. I was wondering if you knew what security hole was used to deface the site? And was it fixed.

I think it was either a VB exploit or something with the recent php additions to the site...like the snippets. Or maybe it wasn't even from cprogramming at all, but from the many sites it hosts.

and it looks like these guys are on a roll - they've hit many websites today: http://www.zone-h.org/en/defacements...facer=Simiens/

I found the same link earlier today. Obviously it's something frightfully simple that can be done quick (with a specific program or script). But, it also got the main page not just the forum so I think it might actually have to do with the hosting company software/security.

well, if they did this for recognition (I don't see another reason) they might've been working on it for some time and just decided to attack today.

The attack came through a vBulletin security hole that was patched in a recent release that I just upgraded to.

Attacked by Simiens: 28415 of which 2840 are single IP and 25575 mass defacements
Sounds like someone needs to get a life.
