Someone keep me out of jail

There was a hack attempt on a friends website/pc. This much is confirmed. I have the IP, the address, basically i know everything that i need to know and im about to pop.

The guy lives about an hour from me, and im about two seconds from driving there. So basically before i go there or return the favor with interest, how would you handle this?

    His supplier is comcast.

File a police report, contact the attacker's ISP, contact your friend's ISP.

This sort of thing happens to me all the time on irc.
I got into an argument with an IRCop once and he ended up DDoS'ing me and tried sending me virii.

Who cares? He probably tried to exploit some dumb PHP vulnerability. Forget it and move on.

Unless, of course, there's more to this.

Two cops are talking to each other after a long day of talking to kids about not doing drugs. One of the officers says that he managed to deter 7 kids from doing drugs just today. The second officer asks him how he accomplished the task.
The first officer holds up both hands thumbs to thumbs fingers to fingers and make a mushroom top shape with the forming hole and says "I told them this was the size of your brain before you do drugs" then teh officer made a tight fist and contined "Then I told them this was the size of your brain after drugs".
"Not bad" replied the second officer. Quite sure of himself the first cop asked the second how he did and the second cop said humbly "I managed to deter 42 kids from doing drugs." The first officer was in shock and mumbled "How?"
The second officer said "Well pretty similar to your technique actually but maybe a little in reverse" the second officer made a tight fist "I said, This is your anus before you go to jail for doing drugs........"

What better reason NOT to go to jail? I think its more relevant than your sarcasm dictates.

If that's the case, then why do you think he is stupid enough to leave behind enough info for you to get his ip address? My guess is he used a trojan to take over some grandma's computer, and then used that as a proxy to hack your friends.

Everytime you make me think you're halfway mature, you do something like this.

This world has rules. It's not some goddamn movie where you can go kick someone's ass because they've wronged you in some way. There are protocols in place to deal with people who are bad. They don't always work, but you know what? Sometimes life isn't fair, and you have to deal with it. If you go there and do something stupid, YOU will be the one who's screwed, not him.

    Grow the hell up.

In a way yes. In the past you could pay to have this option for like 2.00, but the way it works now is they dont change it unless the mac changes. So basically as long as you dont chnage the modem or router then your ip will pretty much never change.

One of the guys in our AA clan is firneds with this character and started defending him before i ever even accused him. I know where that guy lives, and its a complete match. Hes one of those arrogant "im the best you cant get me" types and doesnt care to spoof off other pcs.

I agree with GC I don't think guys like the one that released the blaster worm should be messed with!

GC most likely agrees with that he likes to say "I'm better than you."
    HintHe's really mature. )

P.S. I know I'm probably going to get a bad rep, but I don' particularly care.
    My computer is awesome.
