Skip it and bring back the best mod ever, or continue with it and waste our time?

That's kindof messed up. Someone just gave me bad rep for this, and judging by the point drop it was someone pretty senior. I think I am doing a pretty decent job around here.

    **whining** I like my boxes

And what of the silent majority?

    There will be elections.

That is nonsense. (As is the idea that this thread will save any time or that that time is somehow valuable.)

The purpose of the election is to allow an orderly and considered decision to be made by as large a group of members as possible -- to allow the will of the people to transpire. The readers of this thread are not necessarily a representative sample of the board as a whole. The purpose of an election is to allow for this time and to allow for the elections to be publicized via announcement across the entire board so that we can be as certain as possible that the desires of the full constituency are met. This is why elections take multiple days.

Indeed, when making any sort of long-term decision, it's foolhardy to heavily weight the near-term costs (i.e., the time). In this particular case, the cost of taking more time is essentially zero. Moreover, the earlier complaints were about things moving too quickly -- that people didn't have a chance to put forth more nominations. Consequently, the "save time" argument is nonsense. Instead, this thread appears to be mere grandstanding.

A second point is if we are to hold elections, it is wisest to present all viable choices to the people. This election is not intended to be a referendum on Govtcheez.

Finally, the empirical evidence so far suggests that the will of the people is to continue with elections.
