    What's this mean???

OK, so, I auditioned for this musical at my school called "Leader of the Pack" (I've never heard of it...) and I ended up getting the part of Peter, who happens to only say one line in the entire play....and this is the line:

"Yeah man, hip me to the haps"

    What's that supposed to *mean*????

It means you either suck at singing or suck at acting.

Oh, you mean what does the line mean?

    Probably something like...

"I agree, acquaintance. Tell me the events going on."

Nah, I suck at the acting part, I don't think I could get in to national honors choirs in the states if I sucked at singing...

It's a reflective line in which Peter wonders about his role in the world and why everyone is so drawn to this mysterious man who will eventually die an untimely death.

    What musical is it?

My school's doing Pirates of Penzance right now.

I would've tried out, probably for the lead role, but I have conflicts(track, band, church, etc.)

"Hip me" means "Please, perform whatever actions necessary to cause me to become hip" and "the haps" means "the current happenings or events, if you will, surrounding the socialites of most interest." "Yeah, man" ironically means "No way, sister."
It's quite amusing because to say "Hip me" to a Vietnamese person might get them to turn an awkward eye in your direction (it means, in the words of Kurt Cobain, "rape me").
By any chance will you be in black-face in this show? It sounds like you'd be one of the fellows from the court room testimony in the movie Airplane (anyone else here old enough to remember that?).

Uh, hem... jverkoey is a guy, government. I'm quite sure he doesn't have one of those (besides, I'm sure he hasn't reached the stage in his life where he needs such protection).

HAH! For some reason I don't think that's what he was talking about..

So in other words, by your translation LuckY, I'm saying:

"No way, sister, rape me to the current happenings"

    -edit-
And I own the movie Airplane...But I don't remember there being a court-room scene in the movie.....unless we're talking about a different movie somehow. There were, however, two black guys who spoke "Jive" on the plane and the old lady was fluent in it.

"It looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue."

    Gotta love Airplane!
The word rap as it applies to music is the result of a peculiar phonological rule which has stripped the word of its initial voiceless velar stop.

    di·a·phragm - noun
    1. Anatomy. A muscular membranous partition separating the abdominal and thoracic cavities and functioning in respiration. Also called midriff.
    2. A membranous part that divides or separates.
    3. A thin disk, especially in a microphone or telephone receiver, that vibrates in response to sound waves to produce electric signals, or that vibrates in response to electric signals to produce sound waves.
    4. A contraceptive device consisting of a thin flexible disk, usually made of rubber, that is designed to cover the uterine cervix to prevent the entry of sperm during sexual intercourse.
    5. A disk having a fixed or variable opening used to restrict the amount of light traversing a lens or optical system.
I'm sure Govtcheez was referring to definition #1 and not #4. Everybody has a diaphragm.
"Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods."
    -Christopher Hitchens

I was actually going to make the birth control joke, but lucky put it better than I would have. No problems here
