    Marines

Well I am guessing nobody here really even cares, even the resident marine on this site, Thantos (I sent him a PM but he never replied) but I am talking with a marine corps recruiter this weekend, and I'm deciding if I want to enlist or not.

If I do enlist I am going to try to make it into military police (barring testing and how much choice I have).

If I do enlist I am going to enter the delayed entry program and continue training until this semester ends.

    so yeah
    See you in 13

Whatever you decide, good luck. I almost enlisted in the Navy, but that whole stuck-in-a-tube-under-water-for-6-months-with-no-fresh-poonanny thing kinda turned me off. Plus, I'd just be getting out and I'd have no degree.

Darkness, are you in highschool or college? if in college, maybe you should think of their officer program...you could go to boot camp during the summer, and do other duties only during summers...

Before you decide on anything make sure it is really something you want to do though.

Technically, I think you're right, and that's what scared me.

I'm in univesity, and I actually just got information about officer programs in the mail. The guy I've been working out with is training to do just that.

It's something I've always wanted, I want something much harder than army rotc (which I recently just got out of), and I think I'm crazy enough to go through with it.

I'm also going to find out about marine reserves. There's several at our school who are both enlisted and getting an education. Otherwise there are potential openings at the marine base in quantico virginia (my friend's husband works there as a military police officer guarding gates).

Just thinking about it I'm already getting scared because I know basic is going to be absolute hell, but I want it more than anything.

Darkness, I really know how you feel (seriously), but you should think about it long and hard before you make any definitive decission. Take your time, what year are you?

Sorry I was busy when I read your PM and I kinda forgot.

I wish you luck. Just make sure you are gonna be 18 by the time you get to MP school. I worked with a guy that was suppose to be an MP but he was 17 when he hit MP school so they gave him a new MOS.

The key to talking with the recruiter is to realize a couple points: They need you and they don't need you. Recruiters work off of a quota system so they won't waste a lot of time with someone who is baiting them.

Tip for bootcamp: You amount of preperation will prepare you. When you are there realize its just a giant mind game.

darkness. can i ask a few questions?

    1. how old are you?
    2. do you like working with computers?
    3. do you like addressing security issues?
    4. are you a good student?

edit: 5. last question, if in school what year?

answer those questions and i might have something for you that you might actually find more interesting than the marines.

    > 3. do you like addressing security issues?

Troubleshooting network security sounds way more exciting than travelling the world and experiencing things that only a handful of people in the world ever do! YEE-HA!

    I would agree with this...kinda...

Moreso I would say... Despite all apparent evidence to the contrary, they're not out to screw you and make your life miserable. More accurately they're pushing you to prove to yourself what you can accomplish (a hard won lesson ), and be ever faithful that the results are more than rewarding.

[edit]oh yeah, best of luck to ya if you do enlist. You'll have experiences and opportunities you've never even contemplated before. Enjoy the ride.

    NSA?

NSA doesn't get to blow things up just because. Now if you wanted to be a spook thats something else.

And my god did I have a typo before:
Tip for bootcamp: You amount of preperation will prepare you. When you are there realize its just a giant mind game.
    Should be
Tip for bootcamp: No amount of preperation will prepare you. When you are there realize its just a giant mind game.

I considered joining the marines at one point in high school... I didn't join for a few reasons - I wanted to continue my education as long as possible, I didn't want to leave my girlfriend, and the recruiter that called me (and presumably all of them) was like a sleazy car salesman, and I didn't want to join an orginization that promoted that kind of thing...

oh, and war is bad. and my friend that joined the reserves around the time I was considering joining is now enjoying a stay in luxurious Iraq after being activated in Iran.
