Running Debian 3.1 now... Love it, love it, love it. This distro is so much better that SuSE, and the price is non comparible.
Once my system is configured comfortably I will engage into linux programming. Definatly looking forward to that.

Dude we all know that windows 3.1 is the best
Woop?
haha, the flame war began from the second post.
About Debian, i've tried it a long time ago, looked hard then, i'm sure this is something completly different, but now i just don't wanna try anything, i'm totally happy with gentoo.

Everyone is definately entitled to there opinion. Personally I just really enjoy linux. Windows is nice, but it seems to me that linux has much more power, but a persion must know a lot about computers in order to get it up and running.
I ran SuSE 8.1 for a year, but I did not like the idea of having to purchase another distro to upgrade. There was a way to do a distro upgrade using the apt program, but I failed and my system was rendered useless. I went back to Windows XP Home.
Home is nice, but linux presents more of a challenge. I have to partcially agree with prog-bman, windows 3.1. is kind of nice.
My first computer was a 286 12Mhz, 30meg 4MB RAM HD, 51/4 Floppy with MSDOS 5.0, and then it was a 386sx 12Mhz with MSDOS and windows 3.1. Spent a lot of time on that system, so there is always a place in me for 16bit.
Basically linux is linux. Pick your distro and roar with it. Have a blast and enjoy that free software.

Windows NT 3.5 was a sweet system, worth a look if you manage to get it through official channels (quite rare). It's like Windows 3.1, but 32 bit! Plus, Word 97 runs on it! (Bottom of the page)
I forgot about that OS, and I would have to agree. I believe that I have Windows NT 3.51 on CD somewhere in my mysterious stack of software.Originally Posted by SMurf
