    >>My buddy has a LCD and his graphics look a heck of alot better than mine, and were on the same exact vid card.

And how much did he pay for it? And are we talking still graphics or fast-paced games (racing?).

I'm sure high-end LCDs are up to speed, but on the whole, they are not.

On a plus side, they give you alot more room on your desk for your coffee cup collection.

Today is caffine molecule day, hit me baby one more time yeah.
Microsoft is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistant one.

He got it at BJ's, a 19 inch sony model marked down from 379 to like 150 or something. He bought two cuz they were so cheap.

He doesnt play many racing games, but its AA and HL2 so...

I cannot think of a reason not to use ClearType or some equivalent technology. You effectively get a resolution of 3072x768 instead of 1024x768 when viewing black text on a white background.

But if the configuration is wrong, you'll get a much, much worse resolution than without ClearType.

If you're sitting 24/7 in a dark room, you have other things to worry about.

    >> no-one has ever proved monitors to be a risk to your eyesight, ever. <<

Absolute proof is a hard to come-by commodity. However, it is widely accepted that an increased amount of near-work (which includes reading from a computer monitor or book) is a key causal factor in late onset myopia. The glaucoma study does not qualify as proof, but the association was quite strong.

Better, read printings with large letters. - Press Ctrl+ now!

    Lifestyle causes myopia, not genes

Alot of LCD text probs are easily solved with cleartype.
Actually ClearTypes makes things way worse (in both my old CRT and new LCD) , the text appears to be fuzzy. I couldn't read a single article the first time i've used XP because ClearType was set by default, so i had to turn it off.

    Stack Overflow :
That thread in the forum is confusing , everyone is trying to prove his\her point.

As i said , it does work but it just make things blurry and harder to read. I'm on 800x600 btw

The only thing i've done since i installed the monitor is installing it's drivers. Are there any settings i should mess with to see if i can get the picture better? my brother saw my monitor today and told me that everything looked very clear , so maybe i'm just not used to it

From a gamers aspect there is no difference between a crt and the new 8ms refresh lcds. Any higher than that and you'll have ghosting and possibly lag. Even with the low latency lcds i notice that I get lag in need for speed underground 2 when I'm hooked into my kvm switch...if the lcd is straight into the video card however it's perfect. So if anyone wants to get an lcd, i recommend lcds with the 8ms latency such as: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...116-347&depa=1
    PHP and XML
    Let's talk about SAX

ClearType shouldn't be used on CRT monitors. If ClearType makes things worse on your LCD, something is wrong.

    Go to this page:
    ClearType information by Steve Gibson

Look under "A Smooth Feast for Our Eyes". Which image looks the best? It depends on if your monitor has R-G-B or B-G-R configuration.

Brain Cell, which example looks best on your display? On your LCD -- there will be no difference on a CRT.

I'm with sandman. The RGB one looks darker and more defined.

i have a stigmatation(sp) in my left eye because of computer monitors... if I sit in front of a computer for more than 10 hrs my left eye gets really blood shot and really painful. Plus now I have to wear glasses. The eye Dr said it was from computer monitors...so who knows

Well who in their right mind would sit in one place for 10+ hours?

But, having said that, if I don't move away from my computer at work for at least a little bit during the day, my one eye gets bloodshot, but it doesn't hurt.
