    LCD vs CRT

I've been reading some of those "LCD vs CRT" articles before i decide to replace my CRT with an LCD monitor yesterday. So i went to the shop and bought a nice\cheap 17" LCD and its working fine. I noticed some significant differences in the display though :
    • The screen is much much brighter wich im not used to.
    • images\text are a tiny bit fuzzy.

is this how LCDs supposed to display stuff?

and another thing .... a friend has told me that LCDs don't harm human eyes in any way , so i can use it 24/7 (even in dark rooms) without affecting my eyesight , is this true? I know that LCDs don't flicker wich means less eye strain but i don't know if eye strain has anything to do with eyesight.

In short words , are LCD monitors safe to use for a long period of time (like 5 hours in a row) ??

    >> images\text are a tiny bit fuzzy.
This is bad, take the piece of crap back and get a better one. LCD's should have nice sharp displays.

I use mine at minimum 8 hours a day, though i do switch between a CRT and LCD..... I try to spend as much time as possible using the LCD because its noticably easier on the eyes.

IT IS sharp but not as sharp as a CRT.

it might be easier but does that mean it doesn't affect my eyesight?

LCDs are much better than CRTs for displaying text, because you effectively get three times more image elements horizontally.

Perhaps your screen is configured wrong for ClearType. Try downloading Microsoft ClearType Tuner.

AFAIK most eye problems associated with using monitors are due to eyestrain, so if it's easier on your eyes, you avoid that problem.

Maybe this information can help you: CRT MONITORS. And a brief overview of the Benefits of LCD Monitors.

A longer document about Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) Monitors can be here: Are Computer Monitors Harmful to Your Health?

    Actually i don't use ClearType .

    Stack-Overflow :
Thanks for the links , but i've already read about CRTs , i found many links on how bad is CRT to our health but i couldn't find a single site showing how "good" is an LCD as a replacement in detail. (except for "less eye strain and no radiation")

I responded to a few comments, I guess I'll just reiterate:

Using a monitor (regardless of type), in a dark room vs. a light room does not affect your eyesight. That is the same bunk myth that reading in low light will hurt your eyes. It is simply not true.

Also, LCDs are not up to par and do not produce the same quality when it comes to gaming. And hence, I will not be buying one until something changes.

    Alright,

Well here is a good discussion between CRT and LCD monitors: Do LCD monitors affect vision?. It covers more than that though, since it's a open topic on a forum.

the only thing in there related to the health aspect was a link to an article, staing this:

Men who spend hours staring at a computer screen may be at increased risk for glaucoma,
Which is fancy for "we dont know if it does or not, but sure makes us look like we know something!

no-one has ever proved monitors to be a risk to your eyesight, ever.
