Roidian: Final Hour (72 hour gd compo results)

Well, the 72 hour game development competition's done and over and the results are in, and my team took first place with our game Roidian: Final Hour.

We're incredibly happen to win first place, and you can find the more details thread here:

    http://www.finalredemption.com/72hou...?showtopic=262

You can download the game here:
    http://thejefffiles.com/downloadfile...nInstaller.exe

And I'll upload a couple screenies so you can see the game without having to go to any external pages.

Is there an official contest website or anything, or is that thread all the information?

Congrats! I'm going to grab this tonight.

    Congrats

The game looks good but it doesn't work well in my computer. When i start the first level the background doesn't stay in it's place , and sometimes might disappear. The grey message box is having problems , too. The text wouldn't be clear untill i move forward for some reason. And finally , when i tried to quit the game i got an error saying that some memory can't be read.

    My computer's specs :

    P4 - 1.60 GHZ
    512 DDRAM
    Direct X 9.0

running Windows XP. Could it be my end?

    keep up the good work

Hmm.....that's odd that the game would run weird like that, I haven't heard that happening to anyone else's computers....I did know about the memory thing when closing the game though, I'm not 100% sure as to why that happens, and I just got my new computer all put together and everything so I've been migrating everything over, but once it's all set up and everything, I'm going to make a 1.1 patch to fix the bugs.

Thanks for the feedback so far, and govt, the official site is just:

    http://finalredemption.com/72hourgdc/board/

There's no main site, it's all just done in the message board there, and the competition itself is rather young (I think this is the 4th semi-annual compo, we have 'em every summer and winter)

Amazing game. I don't believe you guys did it in 72 hours! Even if you prove it!

However one gripe: it crashes on my PC when you try to exit and also reboots it.

I'm using XP Professional. Not sure which version of Direct X (I can't check either, this isn't my computer).

I was thinking pro athletes. There should be a "Roid Rage" mode where everything on the screen dies, but your engines get really small.

    Hahaha.

Okay. I just beat the game, but it wasn't easy (it took about 5 tries). It was fun and very well done, although bothersome at times. I see why you won. One line I have to say really made me chuckle out loud is, "The problem lies in the satellite. Someone has messed with it." Hahaha! Very technical speak for your military commander to use. Very good job.

The name stems from a name I actually came up with a long time ago, it's made from the game galaxian, and asteroids, so I took the roid off of asteroids and the ian off of galaxian and made Roidian

And yah, the text isn't exactly the most intelligent stuff most of it was written veeeeerrrry late at night

Well I have to agree it's better than "Galaxaster" or "Astexian." But "Galass" would probably sell more copies to the demographic of males between the ages of 13 and 45.

Curious: is/will the source (be) available eventually?

Be interesting for me to look at sometime, maybe give me more ideas...

Not sure, I haven't released anything open source (of my completed projects) so far except my physics solver. I might release parts of it, but more than likely I won't release a rebuildable copy of it....
