I believe you've answered your own question...JNZ = jump not zero, NOP = no operation (or something like that), shl = shift left, etc...

Not quite. Assembly was actually created for the express purpose of being easy to read. That was of course, back when the only alternative was pure machine code written in binaryI've seen assembly and it has to be the most un-readable language there is. AT&T Syntax > Intel Syntax
System 370 > AT&T
