Well, my laptop's officially dead. First it was the PCI ports, then the keyboard, then the battery, then the LCD backlight....and now the hard drive.

My dillemma is such:

The computer itself still works, but it appears that part of the hard drive is damaged/corrupt and is unfixable.....so I was wondering if there was any software that ran on bootup, scanned the hard drive, and pointed out the sectors that were damaged so I could install a new OS *around* the damaged section.....? Like, I'd have the OS in one part, and then 2 partitions, one before the damaged section and one after.....

I'm going to commence my own search for this right now.....I'm really bummed out that I'm computerless now...thank god I backed everything up last week (took 16 cds to back up all my junk, plus 25 gigs on my mp3 player and another 1.2 gigs on my website....)

I'm going to be looking for parts for building a new desktop, I don't think I'm going to invest in another laptop for a loooong time, and defintely am never investing any money whatsoever in Gateway. Ugh.
