Looking for good web host, need help

I've been wanting to do a web page, but not sure who to go with, there's so many different hosts out there. So thought I would come here and ask. I figure at least some of you have do a web page and needed a host. I don't really need a ton of space, I've looked for one that one of my teachers told me about that you only had to pay for once. But for the life of me, I can't remember what it was called. I think it was like 30 meg of space for one time fee of 25$ for life. I'm not sure, well anyways, please offer some suggestions for me, thanks in advance.

That is pretty good. Its completely free and has no popups or ads of anykind. You get email all kinds of support for everything.

    Give it a look.

It all depends on the type of site you want and the requirements.

If you're a real man and are looking for windows hosting (if you have the testosterone for ASP.NET and SQL Server say) then you might like to give www.hostdepartment.com a go - $10 for 1.5GB space is pretty good IMO.

On the other hand, if you're a boy looking to turn female and thus need a wimpy Linux host (or don't need any server side scripting languages or databases) then there are a huge number of sheep^H^H^H^H^H linux hosts out there that are pretty cheap.

From your post I gather you haven't done much with creating web sites, so things like scripting languages and databases might not matter a whole lot, but if you plan to get more into it you may want to check these things out before deciding on a host. Most people go the cheap opensource way with Linux/PHP/MySQL, and it's a great way to learn about more advanced web design, so I suggest if you do go for a commercial host, make it one with these capabilities.

Oh, and for some free ASP.NET hosting, you might like to give http://europe.webmatrixhosting.net/ a try. While it is only 30 day trials, theres no popups or spam of any sort, and theres trained people who do care about you to help you through any problems you might face. 20MB webspace and 10MB SQL databases.

Ok, thanks for all the replies, I'll give them all a look over, and make a decision.
