Thread: What do you do?

  1. #1

    Meat Cleaver!

What do you do in your spare time?

I figure alot of you have programming projects on the
side that you do, but i wanna know what some
of you guys do when your not programming.

Also, if your older then say 28, and you still game,
as in 3DShooter or such post how old and what
game(s). (NONE of that MMORGP crap, no offense to your RPG'ers)

Also, post some of your favorite sites. The sites
dont nessassarily have to be programming related
id just like to see some of the stuff out there i may not
    have found.

And one last thing, how organized is your computer, do
you have folders for individual documents, or do you have
one folder with every document you have ever made?
Also how many desktop icons do you have?

Id love to post some sites i found, but i dont
think many of you'd be interested and i dont
know if they are rated for this board, i know what
your thinking, and no its not porn.

As for the other questions, im 20
    and i play Half-Life (CS/DOD/CZ/Source Beta)
    and UT2k4 / UT2K4 / HALO.

Besides the game, i setup game servers on linux systems
for www.gameserverpimp.com and advance my programming
knowledge for my spare time activities.

Im very orgranized, i have a folder for all related subjects, and
    my desktop is iconless.

I agree with RoD, the topic does suck, but I'll play along.

I'm 21 and do "many" things outside of programming. School takes a lot of my time, I don't play games anymore (I tell myself that there are better things to do, but I also haven't upgraded my POS laptop in 3 years, so you choose your reason as to why not ).

Weight training is a really big part of my life; I try to go to the gym 4-6 times a week and workout for 2 hours.

I read A LOT. At any given time I'm reading 1-3 books, and on average I read a book per week - it is mostly classic literature, with Russian lit being my favorite, but overall I read everything. Currently: "Curious Incident of a Dog at the Night Time" - Haddon, "Invisible Man" - ellison, "The Double Flame" - Paz

I also write; both poetry and prose, some of the stuff is on my website, but I have journals FULL of all kinds-of different writing.

I really love techno and the like types of music, and enjoy going clubbing during the weekends. I tried to DJ, but frankly I wasn't very good at it, and it cost too damn much.

Another thing I really enjoy is a good smoke - a decent cigar once a week is a must, and I love a good hookah (arabic water pipe with flavored tobaco [shisha]) and the atmosphere it provides...this leads to another thing that I like, and it is philosophizing and talking with friends, also known as, random BSing about stuff that really doesn't matter

Ever since my ex and I broke up, I've been rebuilding my past friendships and other relationships, as well as finding ME, hence, I've been doing all of the above much more often lately

Like axon, I also enjoy reading/writing, though my taste is rather peculiar. Generally, I have one fiction book in progress, and a few in the areas of math, science (physics), and philosophy (objectivism, philosophy of language, etc). As far as writing, I stear clear of poetry. While I like reading good poetry, I don't write it.

Other than that, I fly, although I moved recently (coming to college), and haven't had a chance to in a while. I have taken up skydiving, though. Great fun, it is!

I'm 24, married, and an engineer that spends all day programming. I also have a small company on the side where I do random projects including web design, small programming projects, and computer repair. Between my wife and my second job, I don't have a lot of spare time. The little spare time I have is split between my wife, video games, TV, and family in that order. I read sometimes, but I'm too fidgity to stick with it.

I also play basketball, softball, and volleyball when I can. I like to stay active to stay fit and I hate it when I can't play.

Other than that... my computer is pretty tidy, but can always use some work.

If you're going to ask people a general question but preface it with some bonehead remark reguarding certain perfectly valid answers to that question, then do me a favor in the future and don't make threads.

meh... I just ignored the stupid comments.. hardly anyone fits those criteria here so the thread would have went down in a flaming pile of poo had the rules been followed.

    Ooh, fun.

    > What do you do in your spare time?
    Lots of stuff..

    > video games
I like the old classics. I hope I can find time to create a list of save states in my Rockness X emulator to mark my favorite parts of Mega Man 4(I have 2 and 3 done so far). But I don't see when that'll happen. Heh. I also like playing the MAME emulator for the mk series, street fighter series, and countless other arcade oddball classics. I'm into the retro gaming/emulation scene. I try to buy the original hardware and software as often as possible though...been collecting NES games with the box, manual and everything in complete form off eBay. Can get pricey, but it's neat for nostalgia reasons.

    > Also, post some of your favorite sites.
Check both of my personal sites linked in my signature. Well, the siren site is my formal hobby site. The other one is just my doodle pad. The doodle pad has a long list of my most favorite and commonly visited links. Incidently, it's always being updated with my "wallpaper of the day" which you can vote on. This shows my desktop setup.

    > And one last thing, how organized is your computer
    Pretty good. I hate clutter.

    > do you have folders for individual documents,
I guess. I've attached the basic directory structure output of my folders setup.

    > Also how many desktop icons do you have?
    6

    > my desktop is iconless.
Well, I do like to be able to aim and shoot once and awhile. I use windows explore to navigate through my organized structure...but, I do like to have it RIGHT NOW once in awhile too.
