Hey guys, I just bought an '89 Camaro RS with a new huge 5.7L, and I only got it for $1200 with good stereo.
The only thing that is wrong with it is the clutch, it's done for. So I'm thinking about what kind of clutch to put into it next. I'm thinking $450-$550, can that get me a good one, and if yes what kind of specs should I look for in the set, 'cause I'm gonna buy it as a set.
I was thinking of going hydroloc but it't too expensive.

will you be changing it yourself? if no, than I doubt you will make it anywhere near $550. I'm not sure, but even an OEM chevy clutch will run you that much.
Out of curiosity I found a set on ebay for $441.
If you are willing to dish out a bit more money I would get a centerforce clutch...I am their loyal costumerthe clutches are very good and can take a lot...not to great for stop and go traffic however.

There are all kinds of clutch manufacturers out there. It depends on what you want to do with the car and how much horsepower you have. If you are stock, and I can't believe I'm saying this, then the stock OEM Chevrolet clutch should do the job. If you are running significantly more horsepower than stock then the stock clutch simply won't do the job. It won't stand up to the added torque and will begin to slip on you and thus wear out much quicker. The clutch thus far that has been recommended is a very good one indeed. But, again, there are a bunch of manufacturers out there so shop around.
5.7L - nice, very nice.
And I agree if you can do it for $550 then heck I ought to have you put a new clutch in my Eagle Talon TSI AWD. I doubt you will be able to do it that cheap, especially on the 5.7L engine - even if you do all the work yourself. Clutches are not cheap and the more horsies you run...the more expensive the things get. Stock is about the cheapest you will find. Don't buy those aftermarket cheapo OEM imitation clutches (think AutoZone economy clutch stuff) because you will be replacing the thing very quick. Changing the clutch is not hard if you have a lift and all that but no one enjoys tearing into their tranny every 4 months or so. Ok, well, I do, but I'm not normal.
