    RIP - Remembrances In Programming

Something for the old fogeys on the board to reminise over...

The languages of yester-year which I no longer use, and probably never will again.

    • Pascal

    • Ada

    • PLM86

    • CORAL

    • RTL/2

    • Prolog

    • COBOL

    • BCPL

    • Forth

    • QBASIC

    • Several other BASICs like DEC-BASIC

    And assembly for
    • PDP11

    • Z80

    • 6809

    • Am29000

    What's obscure on your list?
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

Am I to take it that you still use Fortran, or is it something that you never used? BTW, does your familiarity with the above languages qualify you as an old fogey?

    Never used it
Unless it's a memory so horrible that it's being suppressed

Welsh (apparently) has the most in-built redundancy of any modern language, so is ideal for use on noisy communication links. Must be down to all that shouting between the hills

I've used Logo, Fortran, Pascal and Qbasic, but I've forgotten just about everything.

Just to poll you guys (and to see how old some of you really are ) has anyone coded with punch cards, and spent a few days compiling?

    Hell yeah!
If it takes you a day just to submit "hello world", you're going to pay a lot more attention to getting it right.

I had hoped to put VB on that list, but just like the bad guy in a horror movie, it manages to rise from it's grave time and again.

She was so Blonde, she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice can because it said "Concentrate."

When in doubt, read the FAQ.
    Then ask a smart question.
