not too long ago we've talked about "when will oil end". There is a good article concerning this topic in this months issue of Popular Science. Article can be found here: http://www.popsci.com/popsci/science...670731,00.html

I certainly don't believe it will "flow forever" as one person in the article suggested, and I do think that the rate of consumption pretty much has been rising steadily, as was mentioned in the article. The article only mentions China, but all countries want to become more industrialized, which ends up meaning more oil usage.
If you think about every car in the world using fuel every second, it's remarkable we've even come this far.
I heard a while back that there was a corn-based substitue that's lined up and ready to go. I'm looking for some confirmation on that right now, but true or not, I think people worry too much about this. I think a good clue would be how much money is spent by the oil companies in keeping people dependant on oil. There are companies like BP who are now advertising in the states how they are looking at "other alternatives" but really I think deep down BP is trying to attract our attention away from what's already there. Do you know how many people have been killed by hitmen hired by oil companies, because they "knew too much". It's alarmingly common.

Howdy,
I would think oil companies would be more interested in alternative fuel, after all eventually we will need them and they (oil companies) seem to be in the best position to provide them.

I don't like you very much. Please post a lot less.

No, I know you were joking. My point still stands.
Denmark, and I suspect other countries, (Germany I know), have been investing in producing road fuel, (diesel engines), from Rape Seed Oil for many years. There is an article from the Danish Peoples Renewable Energy Centre here, it's in English.
If you google for "Rape Seed" and "Diesel" you'll find loads of papers.
