    page design

i have a friend who is a Vietnamese model, and she wants me to make her webpage for her.

the webpage will eventually be at www.dasavo.com, but as for now I am building it on my server space at school to test it out before i move it over there.

of course it has to look "girly" because she is a model and it is her modeling webpage, so i am trying to make it look slick, clean, awesome, and girly all at the same time.

i am not sure how to design the menu, however. i have the main page picture and the background worked out, but i am not sure how i should design the menu and i'd like some suggestions....especially if you are a girl yourself...hint hint prelude....

here is what i got so far (and i do really like what i got so far):

    http://students.cs.byu.edu/~dprucs/dasavo/

    [edit]

i have thought about making a small text menu that is animated using CSS style scripts near the top right hand corner. like when the mouse moves over the link in that menu the text could become bigger or something.

what do you think about that?

but that only covers the top right hand corner...we are still left with the big menu....

or i could just do a single horizontal menu below the picture of her, or make the main menu a vertical menu on either the right or left side...not sure..

    [/edit]

What's with girls and pink?! Is it relly necessary for the website to be pink. After you 've owned a computer for about 5 years and surfed a good (and bad) portion of the net, the color pink may give you bad signals. Try light blue, like the colour of XP. As far as menu is concerned, if the server is Windows, you can check out the variety of dynamic and static menus a=that Pagemaker comes with. If its Linux, I'm sure you'll find many php codes on the net for menus.

umm... WTF? Just because someone is running Apache doesn't mean that it's on a linux box. I have Apache 2.0 running right behind me on a Win2K box.

Go to http://css.maxdesign.com.au/listamatic/index.htm for versatile, cross-platform menu layouts.
Go to http://cssvault.com/ for design inspiration, let me know if you wanna know how to get something done regarding the design, I've been doing css+xhtml a lot lately so I could probably direct you to some references.
Just want to let you know that cascading style sheet (css) is the most preferred trend in web designing and Internet Explorer is the least preferred media to develop in

I'm nopt sure that you want to stick with the stereotipical girly image of the webpage. If she is an aspiring model, don't make the website look like a Britney Spears fan page. I agree it has to be "slick and clean", but make it modern or even futuristic. Whatever you do though, the pink has got to go bro...

anyways, a few months ago I made up a pretty cool many that is very easily modified....you could find it here .

those lists/menus on the listamatic page are cool.

i think i might go with a tabbed page design.

sounds like lots of you do not like any of the pink. however, i do kind of like that fade effect that is going on.

i could change the fade effect to a baby-blue or something like that when i get home, or if it is abhorrent i could take it out completely.

Why don't you set up a weblog for her so she could update the content easily without html knowledge. http://www.wordpress.org should be your choice, it's ON FIRE right now!

I think this would make a great design - roughed out the sketch for layout only -- youd have to do all the work (getting a good photo(s)).
Basicly, this should be dead center on a white back ground. You should get a picture of her sitting in a relaxed (perhaps provocative) pose like such. Your color scheme for the website should be complementry to what ever atire she wears in the photo. For the navigation, it consists of a couple square images that are portrait shots of her in different facial emotions (perhaps flirty teases?). With bold appropriate font text saying what it links to (gallery, jounral etc). The connecting element is a lacey/bow kinda fabric.
The content (news, pictures etc) should all line up under pic/nav centered and no wider then the photo and navigation comprise of the page.

Just my suggestion for a clean sleak, and attractive page.

(it should be realized my posts are all in a light hearted manner. And should not be taken offense to.)

well, first off, i just talked to her and she loves the current design with the current menu system. so i might keep it.

dbgtgoten, you hit some good points, but i am going to modify it a bit...

maybe it could be more like this:
