Thats an interesting idea, the only problem i forsee is trying to place content asthetically anywhere near that design. That was the same problem I had with your first design too. You see, you are isolating your content from your header or navigation. Doing so really complicates the process of finding a good flow. In your first design, the header/nav span across the whole top of the page, depending on the size of the window, the width and height of the page will differ on every page view for every visitor. That means the width of your paragraph blocks, or content will probably differ unless you set a specific width, and if you do that then it wont look right when the page is too large for the block of content.
My design isolates the header/content as well, but not before setting some page parameters. The content is dictated to be the set width of the image + nav images, it gives you an out for the page size varience. It segways for nice blocks of text aproximatly 400px wide. You want to be able to:
    A) Integrate content with the header/nav or
    B) Set some page paremeters with the header/nav
    Above all things.

I've done that before david...it is not a good idea. The reason is that the circular menu with the main pic inside will be quite large, so then you will have to scroll down a lot for the contents of the page. It is a much better design if almost all of the contents can fit on a page without scrolling, plus a big-a$s menu is ugly and annoying.

I'd rather have that than a fixed width. If I had a fixed width then every user who views the page would have to resize their window to fit that fixed with and that is just annoying. It is much better so let it be able to size itself dynamically, so it can be viewed at literally any window size.

No, you see a fixt width is viewable at all realestic page sizes. They are designed to fit withion 800x600 resolution. This is the practical design model for all webpages.

Just a thought: Use images as links as you suggested, but instead of a circle, use a rectangle at the top of the page. Put some aligned at the left and some aligned at the right and make the images blend in to the background to make them more snazzy. Then put a lying down picture of her center-aligned. Here's a pic of sort of what I'm imagining. Sorry for the crudity but I drew it real quickly with MS Paint.

The page is now in a fairly complete form and can be viewed at:

    www.dasavo.com

The Weblog is still not complete, but other than that it is pretty much done.

Warning to sensitive viewers: The page contains a large amount of pictures that can be termed "immodest", however there are NO nudes or partial nudes of any kind.

    [edit]

If you happen to sign the guestbook, remember that it is HER page and not my page (I just built it), so your comments on the guestbook should be directed towards her and not me. And make them appropriate, guys (if you do happen to sign it).

Its not a bad design. For some reason my eyes did not like the pink fade that ended in the middle of the screen. Oh and blogs = lame (IMO), too many idiots have tainted them.

if you could somehow make the white background in the title pic transparent to match the site's pink gradient your site would look awsome.

    btw dasa34.jpg is the best

    My favorites include:

    103, 110, 16, 19, 26, 43, 45, 48, 46, 76, 87, 94, 97

Not to mention several others that I did not post on the page.

    >if you could somehow make the white background in the title pic transparent to match the site's pink gradient your site would look awsome.

I was actually going to do that at first. I made a simple file in photoshop that had the picture of her, the text, and a transparent background, but then when I saved it as a JPEG it converted the transparent background to a white background.

I decided to use it anyways, and decided I liked it...I still havent tried the transparent background thingy but I am sure it would look good as well.

By the way, the website has roughly 6 GB of bandwidth per month. Last time I checked (5 minutes ago), about 30 MB of that bandwidth had been used. I think 6 GB should be enough, dont you? So far the site only contains lots of PHP and HTML code, coupled with about 7 MB of pictures (totalling 8.4 MB in all).

and Thantos, would you suggest anything other than a blog to fill that void?

    A couple things:

    1) You never know which page you are on in the portfolio. I suggest changing the color of the current page number.

    2) You really need to change the pic on the bio. It's not becoming of her.

    3) You may want to add the ability to view more than 9/12 images per page. I got tired of loading a lot of new pages when I could have just as easily loaded 50 at a time.

Definately 4. The other ones look absolutely crappy... like someone is a complete amatuer at air brushing or something...they look fuzzy. And the main pic is great. Don't change it.
