Thread: Gas dropping?

>Ok, but for all those people that don't live in the states, how much driving do you do?

30km ( ~20miles ) to work, same number back obviously. All of it is "Autobahn". I have one traffic light, one zebra crossing, a rotary and 30km of Autobahn between my house and my workplace. On good days it's 10 minutes to work. However, that also means that I have to refuel my 30ltrs at least once a week.

SUVS and small trucks provide a wrong sense of security. They can go fast and load a lot, but in the end, without all the normal security measures of real trucks and without the handling of a normal car, most crashes I see on the Autobahn have at least one SUV or small truck involved. And it sure doesn't look too secure once it's on it's side or roof and destroyed.

$2.61 near my house, today just dropped to $2.59. But about 2 exits away from my house i get the same gas for $2.44...

Yes, a big guzzling SUV does use more then an economical European car doesn't it! American cars tend to have large thirsty engines.

Petrol in Australia hit Au$4.50 / gallon last week. Ave around Au$3.60 to Au$4.00 / gallon.

I live very close to the CBD and work so don't drive far each day. As flights are unavailable or very expensive we drive everywhere and a trip of <3 hours is considered short (in WA at least, WA is four times the size of Texas with <1.5mill pop.)

A weekend surf / wine safari to Margret River is a good 800km trip (>300km one way). Thats gets very expensive with all the 4 wheel driving (to get to the best surf spots).

I know my friends have hulking SUVs and they gate pumping gas into it. Currently, I probably spend $18 at the pump for a full-tank, they spend around $40. Sucks for them haha! Just get a car, they're cooler, faster, and cheaper.

In Wisconsin, the number one reason for car accidents is deer. My girlfriend's brother recently hit one on the interstate(75mphish). I think they got $300 out of what was left of the 2000/2001 Taurus.

Driving around is so much fun. Bored? Get out in the car, drive around and maybe you'll see someone and then do stuff. You probably spent $2 or $3 a day (tops) and you spend hours blasting music, hanging out, going to the mall, etc. Much cheaper than other activities.

That's basically what I've been doing lately. I've been going on Air Raid Siren picture hunts(I send all this stuff from my website to airraidsirens.com). It's a little weird, but I find them interesting and plan to get one soon. I have a vintage '79 Impala. Deer don't really scare me. I talked to a guy who hit a deer at 60 in an old impala around that time and he said it only smashed up the grill a little. Mine's got the 5.0 130hp V8. Just the little 305. At a quarter of a tank, it takes $30 to fill it. In the last 3 months or so, while taking siren pictures, I've been to 87 different towns, throughout 23 different counties.

The lowest gas price in our area appears to be $1.99 right now. I remember when it was 99 cents a gallon and my family took a trip out west where it was $1.34 a gallon. We thought it was outrageous.

I didn't say he drove a big one. He was generalising by using the "we".

Then theres something horribly wrong with it. I drive a '63 Mercury Comet with a 260 V-8 which is currently running almost entirely on 7 of the 8 cylinders and I still get slightly better mileage than that. And if you've never seen a Comet, picture a Oil Tanker and add headlights (and super-cool fins of course).

Here in Canada, BC we're hovering at $98.5 canadian. No clue what that converts to in american weirdarse measurements/money. Everyones waiting expectantly for the first time ever gas will hit a buck. I swear it'll be the Millenium bug of gas. I mean, theres only room for 3 digits on the gas signs! We'll roll over to 00.5 and everyone will go on a buying spree. Airplanes will fall from the sky! Its coming I tell you!

30 kilometers in 10 minutes means you're driving 112 mph on average which is insane. Most cars can't go that fast for extended periods of time.

The car is a ten years old VW Golf III. Models IV and V are out already, but this one's going fine and I don't have money that I would waste without gain just to have a more flashy version of my current car
There are no modifications at all, no tuning, no stuff. Regular car, not cared for except for washing when I can no longer look through the side windows. Worth if sold right now: ~1500$

Papers say it does 180km/h, it can go close to 200 in long, straight lanes.

If there are no traffic jams on the Autobahn, going at 150-160km/h ( ~110mph ) in the left lane is normal, less is looking for trouble. This is not speeding btw. if there is no special limit, you can go as fast as you like in Germany. It's not uncommon that cars overtake me on my way to work.

Obviously 10 minutes means a green light and no people who use the left lane for a quick nap or other jokes like a bus overtaking a truck overtaking a caravan... with normal conditions it's more like 15-20 minutes and if I have to wait at the lights, watch out for a place to park and there's someone on the left lane who got his driving licence from a CARE packet then it can take 30.

I drive to work in this car for 3 years straight at every weather. The only thing stopping me was when I could not scrape the 2cm of solid ice from the front window last christmas. The car is fine, no damages due to the driving. ( Some scratches and dents, some replacement parts, normal stuff for a ten year old car ).

I have a 1.6 litre 16V straight 4. It is a lot hotter then my last car. I get about 15,5 km to a litre - thats about 60km to a US gallon which is roughly 38 miles per gallon, (I think).
