You would also think, on a computer programming board, where correct syntax is an important thing for most of us, they would also realise the importance of correct spelling and grammar.

I agree, people that type that way deserve to be outcasted. There is simply no excuse for lazyness in typing, really, it takes next to no energy and hardly any extra time...if people are that lazy that they can't type correctly then how would they benefit us? They would only hinder us unless they are avoided, simple as that.

    int = signed integer
float = signed floating decimal point digit
double = double precision signed floating decimal point digit

as you can see, programmers know how to shorten words

Only int is shortened. float and double are both full words. int, char, and bool would be better examples as they are truly the shortening of words.

    +=
    -=
    /=
    *=

    etc
    Those aren't words

but in a computer science syntax, you need to know what float and double stand for... in themselves, the words float and double don't have anything to do with what we use them as when we program.

    float ( P ) Pronunciation Key (flt)
    v. float·ed, float·ing, floats
    v. intr.

    1.
    1. To remain suspended within or on the surface of a fluid without sinking.
    2. To be suspended in or move through space as if supported by a liquid.
    2. To move from place to place, especially at random.
    3. To move easily or lightly: “Miss Golightly... floated round in their arms light as a scarf” (Truman Capote).
    4. Economics. To find a level in relationship to other currencies solely in response to the law of supply and demand: allowed the dollar to float.
    dou·ble ( P ) Pronunciation Key (dbl)
    adj.

    1. Twice as much in size, strength, number, or amount: a double dose.
    2. Composed of two like parts: double doors.
    3. Composed of two unlike parts; dual: a double meaning; a double role for an actor.
    4. Accommodating or designed for two: a double bed; a double room.
    5. Characterized by duplicity; deceitful: speak with a double tongue.
    6. Botany. Having many more than the usual number of petals, usually in a crowded or an overlapping arrangement: a double chrysanthemum.
as you can see, you really need a string of words to get the computer science meaning out of them. we do not use the words 'float' or 'double' as they're defined. we created a definition for them, but chose those words to shorten the definition. this is even worse, because instead of assuming people know the phoenetic spelling and a few missing letters, (as with pls) we're assuming that they can pick up an arbitrary word and add in a few missing words

I think it's a question of it being the accepted syntax. If I'm using C++, "int" works, "integer" doesn't. If I'm using the english language "pls" doesn't work, "please" does. Sure I can figure it out, because unlike a compiler, I'm capable of abstract thought.
But would it kill you to say please?

Probably not, but I'll kill them if they don't.
Naturally I didn't feel inspired enough to read all the links for you, since I already slaved away for long hours under a blistering sun pressing the search button after typing four whole words! - Quzah

    Pls is a word

Okay as with traffic jams and crap, will running a yellow light really make a drastic difference? No. Same with Pls and please. pls is much easier to type as it take half the time with only 3 letters. Same with other acronyms such as lol lmao rotflmfao and dumb crap like that. its easier to type.

certain dumb words have already made it into the dictionary such as brunch or contrail (condensation trail). much longer to type.

sorry i have defend ppl that type pls cause i say pls or plz or pl or p all the time.

You don't offend me in anyway at all really. Your typing simply makes me ignore you if you do that too much. No problem really, I just don't want to read what you have to say when you type like that.
The world is waiting. I must leave you now.
