    Farewell

It is with deep regret that I am leaving this board. Recently it seems that some have been either somehow threatened by or annoyed with my posts. I thought this was a place that we could share code ideas, algos, etc. but perhaps I was mistaken.

Because of recent and uncalled for inflammatory posts in some of my threads and threads that I have posted to I feel that I no longer have anything noteworthy to contribute to the community here at cprog. I do not wish to start a flamewar and it seems that is what is taking place.

For those I've helped and those who have helped me I say farewell to and that it has been very good being here. For the early members that saw me through some very simple and at times very complex problems I say a heartfelt 'Thank You' and you have contributed much to my programming experience and education. For those who somehow feel threatened by my posts...I do not understand your issues and wish you well.

To the webmaster and all of the moderators thank you so much for the board and your dedication to it.

    Bubba.

Thankyou, Bubba for your knowledge you have shared. You are one of the best on this board in terms of Assembly and graphics.

Good luck in the industry. May your hopes of becoming a professional game developer come true. I look forward to seeing you at a Game Developers Conference or maybe an E3 Expo someday.

Keep in touch man. Drop by once in awhile.

Ditto what davidp said. Unlike many, including myself, you always post with sense and knowledge, as well as facts to backup your statements.

Sorry to see you go. I was looking forward to asking you questions after getting into game programming. Maybe I'll see you around other places.

Good luck with your goals and ambitions!

Bubba, I'm not a regular on the programming portion of this site, but your input in the Tech Board has proved to be phenomenal. I can't believe anyone would flame you for anything or not give you the utmost respect. I'm sorry to see you leave here...... but then again FD will have you all to ourselves.

I'll have to agree with you Bubba, a lot of the people here nowadays are very testy about everything you post. No longer can you post here without getting your post actively criticized or the subject changing within the first 15 posts. It's really too bad that you're leaving the boards, you're an awesome contributor to the gamedev boards, and I was looking forward to seeing your current project in action in the near future...

So I dunno, it just seems to me that this is becoming less of a community and more of a critiquing area for post etiquette.

I like how we have the boards here for answering questions, but it's getting to the point now where either you're answering other people's questions on the C++/C boards or replying to some random thing in the general discussions. There's just not much intellectual conversation going on.

If we had discussions about code theory, started projects at the site, actually got some involvement to get people here a bit more part of the community and not just here to answer other people's questions, I'm sure we could all learn and be a lot happier than some of us are right now. Maybe we could have more contests than we currently have?

I think it would be really cool if cboard hosted a game development contest or at least a complex programming contest, something that required people to actually think

sad to see you go, bubba... even though we didn't really cross paths that much...

I think the problem is that people on this board don't want to get into what jverkoey suggested because they're afraid of leaving all the n00bs behind, but then when a n00b asks a question, they're all too often replied to with "STFW" or "read the FAQ"... I'm guilty of it too, but people come here for help, not to get the runaround...

I think we should either actually help these people or go on to other things and continue dealing with them the way they are... or better yet, go on to other things while helping these people...

I don't know about the others here, but I found this place because I needed to know something about the C++ language, so I did a google search and found these forums...

If its in the FAQ they shouldnt be posting, it means they're lazy or incompetent.

Well thank you all for your kind words and perhaps my actions were a bit premature. But I'm tired of getting flamed for absolutely no reason when my goal here is to help and to be helped. Leaving the board is not going to solve the problem and so I have decided to stick it out rather than let a few ruin my experience here. I don't normally post farewell threads or anything close to it but I was getting very fed up and quite honestly...hurt...by some of the cruel posts.

But as I said, leaving won't solve anything and I'm not a quitter. So if we can resolve the issues and get back to programming and...of course...game development then I'm willing to stay. Leaving because of a few people sorta makes me a wuss in my opinion and I don't want to be viewed that way.

Sorry for the premature and perhaps immature idea of leaving the board. Besides....I don't think I could stay away for very long guys.

But....we do need to address some of these issues...namely very poor attitudes towards other members and downright rude and crude posts. I will not name names here because I do not wish to single any one person out. Let's just remember to treat others with respect. I realize that many already do this so it is not a sweeping assessment of the board....just a general statement so that I do not use names.

I have taken the issue up with the right people and hopefully we can get it resolved.

Your right. I think we need a programming contest again. I am not good enough to rate code or time it. But we should start talking about it though. As for the theory thing. Maybe some of the people that hang around in the General Discussions should come out to the other boards and help or ask questions again.
