Well, I just got home from an interview with a game company for a QA position that will last the length of the summer.
It was so awesome. They showed me around their studio. The company, by the way, is Timegate Studios, located in Sugarland, TX.
So laid back....so freakin cool....that is like a dream job. They said will contact me within the week, so I am hoping I get hired. Man that would be such an awesome job....

LOL. Nah, they make the Kohan series, if you have ever heard of it.
It was nominated for game of year back in like...1999 or 2000 or something like that. It is really a great game. Fun to play. It is an RTS.
They are currently making 2 games: Axis and Allies, and Kohan II.
They showed me a new trailer for Axis and Allies while I was there that they have not yet released to the public, it looked quice nice

Nice, one of my friends dad is a publisher of Atari, he came into our class and talked about the game industry. At the end he said any of us could come in and test games and they would offer a job if we really wanted it. I was about to apply until they shut down the division in Minneapolis MN.
While he was here he was talking about an un announced game...just the idea behind it...I just had to say that part.

Cool. I was thinking about applying for a QA position at Cryptic Studios in CA. Still milling it over. I don't have QA software experience but I have 2 years industrial QA experience...and I've heard it's a good way to get 'noticed'.
It is indeed. Working in a QA position is like a boost to help become a game programmer. I actually originally applied to be a programming intern for the summer, but they had no programmer positions open, so they offered me the QA job.
And Bubba, dont worry, I dont have any game QA experience either. This will be my first time (IF i indeed do get the job...i dont know yet if i have it or not).
Another good way to get to know people in the game industry is through IGDA (International Game Developers Association). If you are an aspiring game developer, I strongly encourage you to join this organization and go to your local chapter. You will meet professionals almost instantly.
I myself am a member. It is $25/year for students and $100/year for non-students. Awesome organization.
A ripoff? It was a totally licensed copy.

Thanks a million!! I will look into this. Could you PM me with info on how to become a member? I'm very interested in becoming one and meeting people. I chose a different career path and went to school for something totally different and now I want to change - but I've got the skills and the knowledge...probably moreso than if I did go to school for programming.
