Bill Gates has a ton of power. He could just send out an evil-update that crashes every MS computer out there. That's a lot of power (evil that is). Even if MS stops updating its software for security, hackers out there will destroy the computing world until people make the costly and timely switch to other platforms. Either of these two circumstances could wreck the economy and whatnot.
