I just recently found a project that I did about a month ago. The project was a remake of Final Fantasy I, and I basically was just doing it to see if i could Everything about it is almost exactly the same as the original. I made a program that could take in an image file and chop it up in to a tileset and a .map file which indexed each "unique" tile automatically. also, the tilemap generated has each tile as a completely unique tile. (You'd be amazed how few tiles they made the world map in, lol) You can check out the tilemaps to see the actual output of my map generator program which if i might say, works dang good
but anyways, this project basically allows you to start up a new game, walk around on the world map, go in to the first town, talk to people, and search the ground for items. Also, the menu system is completely functional and you can press select to change the order of your people. EVERYTHING in this game that you see was made from scratch by me, and i had nothing to go off of other than what the original game looked like I used an emulator to grab the screenshots and put together the giant tilemaps that were used in the final engine. So yah, i'm quite happy with this, and I could actually make a whole game just with the engine that i've made so far if i wanted to
So download it and tell me what you think.. If you'd like to work on this project, I might be willing to go opensource with it, all of the code is in a very flexible "module" format that is very easy to work with and offers a LOT of power.
