John Edward - Crossing Over

    http://www.scifi.com/johnedward/

John Edward is a psychic medium. I just watched one of his shows on TV, and I was quite amased. I mean, I'm don't really believe in supernatural things, but that is way more than pure guessing. Sure, there's the chance of the show being set up, but still. Why would they do that? And Rickie Lake has been one of the guests. She's not exactly the one being part of a set up. Argh, it's spooky!

    Like any google for
    "x fake"
    "x scam"
    "x bogus"
Substitute x for a word or phrase of your choice.

He's a fisher for information - "I'm getting something about an 'r' in the month". Yeah, right, that narrows it right down to just the gullible.

There's a great South Park episode that completely lays into him.

Many of these "psychics" do look impressive if you don't know what to look for, but then so do magicians, the difference of course is that magicians admit its a trick.

What they do is essentially a "cold read" perhaps combined with prior fact finding on a subject.

There is a relevent article here:

First of all, the half hour program that you see on TV takes around three hours to record. During all this "editing" time he gets a lot of things wrong, but most importantly he gets people to say what he wants.....basically its all BS.

I'm sure Edwards does this, as someone I know went to a taping of a similar show (I think it got cancelled??) of this dude with a mustache and a really soft voice - I forget his name.

Receive audience ticket requests.
Look up death notices, local newspapers, college/school yearbooks, databases, etc for information on dead relatives.
Only talk to audience members for which step B. provided good quality information.
Use basic techniques to draw out information.
Make statements that are almost certain to be agreed with, "they were loved by everyone", "they had a nick name".
Edit to only show the best "encounters".
Make lots of money from gullible people.
Have you ever heard a "medium" describe the dead person as an "arrogant piece of xxxx". Or "I'm getting the sense that this person was incredibly stupid".

    EDIT: I'd watch that!
