Thread: This neighborhood is going to the dogs

Sorry to interrupt, but this is just too weird.....

While I have been scanning the board, my attention was drawn to screaming and shouting outside my window.

"I'm going to get my f#####g knife and cut his throat!!" Yelled one female voice......

I looked out only to see 3 girls, all about the age of 11 trying to subdue another girl of about the same age from going off to kill whatever unfortunate man had crossed her path.

Well.....I don’t mean to sound old and wave a stick around or anything, but really....come on......what the hell is this world coming to?? By the look in that girl’s eye - she meant it! She should be enjoying her childhood not planning homicide!!!

I quickly shut the curtains and tried to ignore them - I think they are now as I write trying to get into the pub opposite my house!!

I’ll be glad when the hollidays are over and little buggers go back to school!!!!

Another reason I enjoy living in the country...

On the other hand, at school I live in one of the worst cities in the country (we're 4th in auto theft! Smth to be proud of!). Occasionally we hear gunshots nearby... A guy got robbed at gunpoint in my friend's backyard... All sortsa fun stuff!

Well I'm glad we don't have many guns about (yet!!)

it teaches you [if inadvertently] alot of things about respect and so forth... not to mention *cough* programming *cough*... yeah that whole thing... but uhh... yeah... keeps you sane... but also you then realize that everyone has their own life away from the board and we really *don't* know that we'd get along One Fine Day... but so we hope...

You have really picqued my curiosity here Fordy. What do you mean by "yet".

I thought about asking this for a bit because I don't want to turn this thread into a gun thing but I've decided to ask because I am really interested in your opinion.

From what I see in the media (here in the US)- you folks have some pretty stringent gun control laws and if anything they are only getting tougher.

Yeah gun laws are pretty strict in this country - always have been.

You can't just decide to get a gun and legally own one. You have to have a licence for the type of weapon you want - and I suppose you need a good reason for having it. The only person I know who had such a licence is one of my best friends - he's from out in the sticks and used to be involved with grouse hunts.....etc. According to him they were harsh with regulating it (had to have a secure area to store the guns, regular visits from the police.......).

I myself have never looked into getting a gun - so the info I have is second hand.

As to how guns are prevalent in society – well, there are many more crimes involving guns today than there were say 10 years ago. This really upsets me.

As to the laws getting tougher – well as it stands the problem lies mostly with people who don’t want a gun legally – not those tragic cases where people have been accidentally killed with a legal weapon. Sure, strong gun laws will help here, but you cant stop people shipping guns along with drugs etc…… (not effectively anyway)

At least it’s not as bad as you guys have it in the US, but sometimes I’m worried that it’s a matter of time. Pity……….

When (and if) you have children, were do you plan to work? There is little chance you will work in the country, you will work in the city. Don't worry your fammily will be nice and secure in the country.

Yes, I know that but what time do you leave for work in the morning and what time do you get home. Also don't forget, you might need to work overtime.

Now lets figure this
1. you work 8-4 (standard 8 hour day)
2. You drive is an hour and half
So you leave your house

6:30 am

and get home ant 5:30

After a long days work you probbly want to relex for a half hour

So now it is 6

So that leaves 12 hours thiry minuites with your kids? Sorta your are home. But don't forget about sleep (at least 8 hours)

so now your down to 4 hours 30 minutes.

and also you might need to bring your work home or do other things, decreaing your time even move.

Alright, instead of speculation, I'll tell you what actually happens on my normal day.

5:30 - Get up
6:15 - Leave for work
7:00 - Get there
3:30 - Come home
4:15 - Arrive home

Factor in the fact that most of this time, my kids (if I had any) would be in school, and this doesn't look that bad.

An hour and a half to work? Blechh, and I thought my drive was bad.... Also, I don't sleep 8 hours a day (that'd be real nice, tho - I normally get in about 6-7 hours)

Of course I play the fiddle, Dean! It's a requirement once you move out of the city limits! Sorry, no chickens, but last night some of the cows got out and me an' Shep (my old border collie) had to chase 'em down and round 'em up. Ol' Bessie almost got into Mr. Haueter's barn, but Shep got in front of her and she didn't make it. Ma and Pa were so happy!

Ok, first your job starts very early in the morning, I presumed that the earlist you would work is 8. Second I thougt you said your commute was an hour and half some time so that is my bad. Third you work 8 hours 30 minutes, witch means you are already working OT.

Fourth kids don't go to school for the whole day, until they are at least 7. What are you going to do then? Your wife (if not devorcied) will want to work also. Put them in a day care center. I hate those things, they are way to scheduled for a 2 year old. Also to much importance is placed on being a super genius now instead of letting them be kids.

Fivth even if you never sleep again your kids still shoud be allowd to sleep.

One final note: If you never have kids none of what I said matters.

Yeah, but Gamegod, all the stuff is hypothetical... I had a babysitter before I was old enough for school - both of my parents worked... I didn't mind it - there were kids there my own age to play with...

Also, since I don't get paid for lunch (damn management), I only work 8 hours, but that's a mistake that's easily made (my bad this time)
