The economy takes a long time to get going because people need to be hired and then they go and spend, it's not an overnight thing.

The deregulation of the phone lines allowed a bunch of small companies to spring up all over in small towns. Billions of dollars were invested in those companies and they didn't know how to interface with eachother or run it properly. A lot of nontechnical people got involved and they had all this equipment they didn't need nor know how to use so soon people that used their service could only talk to others in that small town.

Also, the internet was much the same way. People invested so much money in these internet businesses expecting them to make money. The problem was that none of them made money so it all failed quickly.

Again, how is that Clinton's fault?

Which is a large reason for the economic collapse. How's that Clinton's fault?

I love it that Clinton is this big bogeyman that so many Republicans want to slap everything that's wrong with America on without any real details about how it's his fault.

The truth of the matter is that it is not Bush's or Clinton's fault that our economy is as it is. For the bigger part of Clinton's presidency the economy was doing great, but towards the end it started falling. Bush came in with the economy already taking a slide. You really can't blame either one of them.

My thoughts are that US economy will never again reach the heights it did starting in the late 80's and which continued through most of the 90's.

Uh oh, somebody said the g-word!

    >>Don't just roll your eyes at statistics about increased chances of becoming sexual predators.

There are no such valid statistics.

    >>What have I ever said that would make me sound like I think drive-through wedding chapels are okay?

But since marriage is a legal contract, it doesn't matter. I mean, the government can't be giving special priviledges to a specifically RELIGOUS institution now, could it? So how can the government stop a portion of its (adult, consenting) citizens from entering into a legally binding contract?

edit: I'm preying on your children right now!

PS: I know Cheez was trying to tip-toe around a gay rights or a religious debate, so you can PM me your response if you have one.

As much as I hate to do this I'm going to have to side with govt on this one, and say that Glirk buddy, you did a wonderfully suck ass job of explaining how Clinton was to blame for anything. At least I made a half ass job of posting at least one link backing up something I read.

About the pres vs economy, I wonder if there is really a whole lot any president can do to fix the economy

    EDIT:
There are no such valid statistics.
He might've read something, but isn't it SOOOOO convenient that PEOPLE FAIL TO POST LINKS TO STUFF THEY READ (assuming its internet junk, but everything is internet anyway). I specifically asked sean to post what HE read

    EDIT1:
I mean, the government can't be giving special priviledges to a specifically RELIGOUS institution now, could it?
    Nope

Sorta, but it's not a real big effect. I mean, he can play with taxes and everything to get people to spend, but usually that doesn't change a whole lot. The economy is cyclical, and more people need to realize that. Clinton treated the economy as it needed to be when we were doing great, and Bush is trying to treat the economy the way he should when we're not.

I finished school in December. I'm not technically graduated yet, but once I finish my thesis I will be (and that's what I should be doing now, instead of going to boards)

Yes it was clinton that de regulated telecom. This allowed so many internet companies to start up, they hired tons of engineers and then they all failed for the reasons I stated above, which meant there was LOTS of engineers without jobs which ruined the job market for engineers.

I don't see how you dont see it's clintons fault, he deregulated the phone lines causeing this, he did a lot more too just I don't know it all off the top of my head. Look it up on the internet and you will find what I am talking about.
