He's not actually mocking god but men. It's quite obvious that their whole discussion about his(?) race is meaningless.
Even if it were mockery, I'm pretty sure god would stand above it. Pun intended.
That doesn't mean I think it's a funny story. My English often doesn't qualify me to judge jokes
