I am designing the website for the Vietnamese Student Association here at BYU, and I'd like some input from all of you about what you think about it.

That is what I have got so far, but I am thinking about changing around the design...in fact I am thinking about taking out the Flash section completely and just using JavaScript and CSS style sheets, but I am not sure how I should change it around to make it better.
Any suggestions?
The blue text on black background is not nice, actually hurts the eyes.
On the second screen its a little hard to read the text because the background is kinda bright. Would increase font size to make it stand out.
Overall it seems to be nice. I don't think the flash is too much.
I agree about the flash thing...actually i didn't realize taht it is flash at all before looking at your code. Anyways I think it could stay.
My only advice is to make the background image less sharp; it is hard to read the text.
Overall it looks nice, but I would get rid of the scroll bar inside the flash animation...I persoanlly really hate it.

I just looked at the non-flash page...
Menu is extremely hard to read due to horzontal lines behind the text. And again Blue text on black background is hard to read IMO
Yeah I agree with you on the menu in the non-Flash version...I have been thinking about changing the design of those for quite some time now.
I have also been thinking of changing to a white background.
I would go with an off white instead of plain white. Maybe a nice eggshell...gah <goes to beat the evil thoughts out of his head>.
Seriously plain white can be annoying due to glare. I do find a soft tone off white to be easier on my eyes.
better if flash and non-flash have similar layout/design

The flash is useless IMHO. It doesn't introduce anything you couldn't have without flash. No flash would load faster, run more smoothly and have full functionality, like a working mouse wheel.
The non-flash version is hard to find, because the blue text on black ground isn't very readable and as it is mixed with the copyright notice it simply gets ignored.
I also think that the "Enter here" link on the front page is hard to find. Just turn the entire splash into the link.
Finally, I can't see the menu in the non-flash version at all! Is this some IE-only gag?
I suggest you throw away the non-flash version and recreate the flash version without flash.

On the main page, you need a white-ish background so all the images appear to fade into one color, right now they all seem scattered and out of place.
On the page after hitting enter, you need to have a smaller font so the text doesn't go below the orange line and maybe put them in a table so its easier on the eyes. I would also have smaller dots for each link while moving all of them down further so they aren't as close to the title.
Ditch the flash... you're not using it to it's full potential, so what's the point in having it? Echo whoever said a straight HTML/Javascript/CSS solution would load faster.
Here is my dilemma.
I have long known that I have not been using Flash to its full capability (mainly because I am not a Flash expert), and that I could make the page 10 times better using just HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, but there is one problem.
I probably wont be around next year to continue maintaining the webpage, and so I was wanting to make the page dynamic and easily updatable.
By using Flash I can load each section of the webpage very easily through a text file, and I can also dynamically load JPG images. This will be good for the club when I leave because they might not have a person who knows web design enough to maintain the page and so they will just be able to go in and edit a text file and the page will automatically be updated, or they will be able to just go in and upload JPG files and the page will automatically be updated.
That is the ONE thing that keeps the Flash section on there. If that were not so, I would almost definitely take it down and just use CSS, JavaScript, and HTML.

Well, I viewed the non-flash version... It's slightly hard to read the text on the links on the side...
And I hate black backgrounds unless they're used perfectly.
my site is flash thru txt files. Working out the bugs because for some reason when u click a link no text is showing up at all. I just now put it on the webserver so its probly something stupid. but its much easier on the eyes.
