how much 'demanding' did microsoft actually do? did they threaten to sue or something? to me this doesn't sound like a big deal at all... it says microsoft wanted to give him $10 for it... It seems low to me, but you cant fault microsoft for wanting to buy mikerowesoft.com... and the kid wants $10000? that's kinda high... I don't think microsoft really cares what he has on his site... they were paying him for the domain name, not his work :rolleyes:refusing to comply with Microsoft Corp.'s demands that he give up his domain name

Rowe says he asked for more simply because he was mad at them for offering such a low amount. This website was his BUSINESS...not some fansite. It could bring in a lot more than $10. In my point of view, very easy to see Rowes side.

yeah, but all he needs to do is change his register a new domain name (mikeRowe.com?) and change his DNS information and his site and everything on it is still there... just at a different domain... and it avoids further lawsuits against him if mikerowesoft becomes a big software/web design firm...

Its not dumb, its protecting their trademark. Such protection extends to names that are phonetically similar.
Granted the offer of $10 was a little low but hey you have to start somewhere.
If I were him, I would ask for something like $500 max... just because I would want to squeeze as much money as I felt comfortable out of it... don't normal transfer offers cost a minimum of something like $200 or something?

Perhaps he could swap it for a few years' full MSDN subscription (OSes an' all). That'd be a good deal, wouldn't technically be costing MS anything.
$10 is kind of insulting, to say the least.
