    extreme cold

I was outside shoveling snow, and my fingers got really cold. I have been inside like 10 minutes and the end segments of my fingers are very very firm

    anyone know why that happens

Constriction of the blood vessels and also the blood in the fingers isn't flowing as much.

You're lucky I still haven't seen snow. It snowed once when I was three I still remember the little bit. It didn't even cover the ground. Louisiana is cool, because it isn't that cold in winter but I still want to see snow

Snow? I haven't had to shovel it since I was in Indiana. Man, I miss Indiana so much. I hate living in the south. The people suck and so does the climate. I like the cold!

We really haven't had that much snow at all this year. One or two nasty days and that's about it.

Your body restricts blood flow to your hands to keep yourself warm. The reverse can also be said (that is, more blood flows to your hands if you overheat)

So if you need to cool off then stick your hands in a bucket of ice water...

it's actually dangerous to try heating your hands before the rest of your body... you're supposed to heat your chest and then your limbs and then fingers/toes...

but yeah... by firm, do you mean they're also numb?

I shall be shovelling snow in about 30 minutes time, and looking out the window, for a considerable period. I have a pair of Neoprene glove I wear for that kind of activity.
