Pure black is evil, something like those two is perfect in my opinion.
Black, dark grey, and other very dark colors (dark blues) are a bit hard to see, and rather ugly (in general), in my opinion. A light grey on the other hand isn't bad.
I don't mind black background too much, but GameDev just feels really cluttered in my opinion. I guess thats what you get when you try to cover pretty much every topic of game programming...

check out the site now, I think you'll like one of the customizations that i madeI'll be adding more as time goes by, maybe some people here would like to make some schemes for me?
here's the colors you can set for each scheme:

body background
menu tops
menu bottoms
menu top text color
menu bottom text color
and each scheme gets it's own set of images for the menu bar at the top (there's 10 in total, 5 for each link w/out the mouse over 'em, 5 for each link with the mouse over 'em)

I usually just get a 404 error, thats because the pages haven't been built.

Actually I didn't use PHPNuke, I wrote every aspect of that layout by my self and I have the source code to prove it bucko!:P

In my opinion I think a good color for the backround would be lightblue or a picture of a body of water in a bright sunny morning will look good with that design.
