Hi guys, I guess that some of you use the computer for CAD design as well, so I was wondering

who does

what s/ware you use

type of work

...


And if you'd like to share some libraries, renders, comments/tips or whatever

I use AutoCAD and Mechanical Desktop, mainly for 3D surface modelling. And mainly it has to do with yacht design.

My copy of AutoCAD 2002 is gathering dust rather nicely these days. Hard program to learn. MY son-in-law is into it, though.
He'll be successful if the goddam INS ever lets him into the country.

I think it's quite a simple program to lear, as soon as you have some one to teach you and easy sample/targets to follow. What is INS?



Barjor: I've seen many job offers for CNC, but how is it? Is it very difficult, it's just mechanical drawing (I don't mean that mechanical drawing is simple)? What do you have to know to be able to get into CNC?

Actually, the 2000 version is the one I tried to learn. I never
installed 2002. I have several tutorials for it, too, on cd.
I guess I'm just not into CAD, although I've seen some other
simpler CAD programs, one of which I used to draw a floor plan.
Those were very easy to learn and use.

INS == Immigration and Naturalization Service. He's a Russian
citizen who moved back to Kaliningrad when his visa expired.
My daughter fell in love with him, chased him all the way to Russia and finally snagged him. But she made one bureaucratic
mistake that's taking forever to fix--she didn't sign all the
necessary papers to get him over here when she was in Russia,
so she either has to fly back and sign or wait until the red tape clears, supposedly in about 1.5 years. She had intended to fly
over and stay until they both could come back together, but now
in the aftermath of Sept 11, everything is subject to change.
I don't know what her plans are. I'm just going to wait until she asks me for the money for her plane ticket. Just one more reason
for me to hate the terrorists.

Hey Barjor, can you post an image of one of your samples? You say that with CNC you use 3D surface and solids, well, when I was learning Mechanical Desktop I did both as well. I don't know with other software (execpt AutoCad, that it's a lot easier, but not accurate), but solids are a lot harder, and I know I'm good at 3D visualisation.

Any little jpg. I've got a few pictures I've done, but the ones I've done at work I couldn't take them home.


The picture I attach is not a great CAD example, but it has 400 hours of design/calculation.

R.B., you might want to have a look to a book by GEORGE OMURA. You'll find different ones (versions of CAD), but you don't need to get the last one. I think that the American title is "Mastering AutoCad 14" (version 14 for example). Really, follow this book and you'll end up with 3D quite fast.
And I'm sorry for your son in law. I guess it's one of the cons of living in USA. For example, when I was living there, I could study, but I couldn't work. Sorry.

Thanks for the info, Gades. I'll keep it in mind. I know you can import AutoCAD files into Flash, which is my mainline right
now.

He lived in this country from 1919 to the day he died, but
never lost his love for his homeland. He visited Scotland
some time in the eighties. There are many Barclays in his home
village, not Aberdeen, but close by, I believe. I'll be avisitin' me
da's land sometime after I retires, laddy.
