    Why my weekend sucked.

Evening 1: Ok. I probably just had the worst ever New Year weekend ever. Let's start from the beginning. First off, I was invited by a girl to hang out with her NYE that day. I agreed and she said she'd call me in a couple hours. She never called so at about 8 I call her. She said she was out with her mom, and that we would hang out later. So I turn down 3 different offers to go hang out that night so that I can hang out with her cause I think she's cool. Pretty much I get $$$$ing blown off to hell. Never called. Never said $$$$ to me. (Excuse language mods)

Morning 2: Get woken up at 8. I have a huge hangover from drinking ALONE. What a way to start the new year huh? It gets better. Some guys come to vaccume the house and all that stuff. Well I notice about an hour after they leave that my wallet is missing. It had about 40 to 50 bucks in it and my license in it also. No doubt it was stolen by one of the two. Can't do $$$$ about it. Can't prove they did. So within the course of less than half a day I get blown off and essentially robbed.

Evening 2: Oh this is where it gets good. No food at the house. Literally. Not even canned food. Holy $$$$ I am starving. Oh looky here my parents are going out on there aniversary. They invite to drop me off of the movies. I agree and head out with them. Oops. Plans change! They are going to hang out with me in the movies. Think it's bad "hanging" with your parents at a movie theatre? Oh it's only getting started. Guess who shows up with a bunch of her friends? Oh yeah. That girl that blew me off. Naturally her friends start $$$$ with me being a smart ass. Instead of saying sorry for ruining my New Years eve, she decided to just ignore me. How great.

Night 2: Ok. So I get home after looking like an idiot at the movies. I log onto my computers (About 20 min ago) and check my mail and sort. I notice something missing. The source code to the application for my works server. Oh yeah. That thing. The thing I have been making for my boss for the last 3 months. It was literally a couple thousand lines. Not only did I sacrifice tons of time on that thing. It gets deleted. How nice. I'm really having fun right about now.

That was my wonderful synopsis of my New Years. It couldn't get worse. Well it could, but doubtfully. By the way. This IS a true story of this New Year. Life sucks. Programming sucks. I need therapy.

Originally i was going to make a list of reasons why this thread sucks but i changed my mind. First things first, look for some windows based data recovery software, and make it a practice to keep several copies, on and off the pc. Secondly, sorry about all the other junk, it'll work out.

    EDIT:
I just posted a whole bunch of crap about why you shouldn't leave source in one location, but it doesn't do any good and I don't want to be an ass. It sounds like you're having a rough time and I hope it gets better (it usually does).

I can't really help with any of the other stuff, but I highly suggest you store your source in multiple places. My source is saved:
    -On an ftp
    -On my email client
    -On my hard drive
-On a school computer's hard drive
    -On the school's network drive
-On CDRs (backed up every month)

I never really thought about backing up my data. Wouldn't have thought it would have gotten deleted.

    >.<

didn't anybody ever tell you that backing up can be as important as doing the work in the first place?

Nope. I never had that problem. That was partly arrogance of teenageness on my part.

I would never, EVER trust saving any important code on a school computer.
Do not make direct eye contact with me.

    Mine are saved on:
My windows hard drive, my linux hard drive (which is two different computers), and on a USB flash memory stick. If there is something really important that I want access to from anywhere I put it on my website.

Why do you store it on your schools hard drive? Is it all school work or is your school a bunch of nice guys?

Sorry to hear about your weekend Zakk.

I keep all my stuff in my USB drive. I carry it all the time, just like a wallet. Its small so nobody asks . Every month I backup the thing unto my HD. With important stuff, I upload it to my site.
