No one has even mentioned the fact that the end was missing a huge part....they didn't even have Saruman mentioned after the first 20 minutes of the movie! Most other things followed pretty closely, as I remember.

Of course, it would have been a bit longer too.....most people here are complaining about it now .

TRY GOING TO A 10+ HOUR MARATHON OF ALL 3!

I'm not going to thought, I'm gonna buy all the extended versions and watch them all in a row .

Because everyone is aware that if the return to the shire were done properly it would add at least another hour to an already long movie. It's very unlikely that they would have gotten away with that, so it was wisely left out. A pity too, that was one of my favorite parts of the book.

I went to see this last night and i have to say I was very disappointed with all three films as a whole. If you have never read the book then they would probably be considerred as a total work of art but for me there were just too many inconsistencies about the whole thing. Bits were missing, others totally reworked. Shame, peter jackson obviously has the talent to have pulled it off, but for me I dont think he did. Maybe i'll change my mind when the extended dvd editions come out but even then there will be too many inconsistencies with the book.A work of art, no doubt. A true depiction of one of the best books I've ever read, not even close.

The extended DVD's of the first two movies are much closer to the books. Its crap how people who only watch the normal one always compare it to the books. Firstly, movies are totally different to books, some things just don't belong in movies. Plus, the movies are already a few hours long so making everything totally consistent with the books would make it even longer, the average joe doesn't care how it matches with the book (because most haven't even read the books), they like it because its a damn good movie. Forcing them to sit through hours of boring stuff JUST because its in the book is just stupid (and could cost them a lot of sales).

Forget the books, and just think about the movies as something of their own. They're $$$$ing good movies.

Like I said, watch the extended ones, they're much closer to the books and the extended return of the king probably has everything (or almost) that the book has.

He purposely left out things that had no effect on the story at whole. People said RotK was too long, if they had kept everything it would be unbearable for many people. Some things should have stayed in, yes, but altogether, it wasn't bad (in my opinion).
