    Dirty looks...

Went to philosophy class today (101), and we were getting the results of the 4th quiz (the department quiz), and if you did well enough on that test you didnt have to do the final.

    The course had this schema:
    1/3 grade = 4 quizes (3 from teacher, 4th department)
1/3 grade = midterm (essay on some assigned subject)
1/3 grade = final (essay on if Kant refuting, acknoledging or neglecting humes arguments)

If you did well enough on the department quiz (#4) you would auto matically get an A on the Final so you didnt have to do it, there for class is already over.

Class starts and he starts to rehatch this information as i have just now to you, and of course every one is looking at there neighbors and are sayings things like "how do you think you did?" etc. etc. Of course several of them are very much "I KNOW i did excellent" etc. Others are like, i dunno, not even a guess.
Im went with the im not sure answer. He says the required grade on the test is 41 (of 50), and starts laying out the tests on the table. Me and my neighbors are still going back and forth, and another neighbor again asks me so how do you think you did? And I reply. I dunno im pretty sure I wont be leaving early... just at the moment the professor says well I'll just call out those that got the grade first and says my name...

DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY EVIL looks. I swear. Especially from people who thought they had it for sure. Turns out only 4 people of 30 got 41 or above. me being best score. Yippe. So me and the 3 other people are like, can we leave? Is that it? no more classes? and the proffessor says yes. Then theres all sorts of rude comments, with spiteful tones "Bye bye 41ers", even something about half assers not finishing the class.

What the hell? Is it my fault you can take decent notes in philosophy and get a damn B, Only a B for cryin out loud. No, i dont think it is my fault. Any ways, Im happy. I aced the course. Airgo, God exists.... Why?

    enough ranting. bed time.

Typical. Get used to it man as this will happen all through college, but rest assured that the people giving you dirty looks today will be the people asking you for help tomorrow.

I don't pretend to understand how these classes work, but as I understand it, you do not need to do any more test, homework or exams. However, the classes are not finished. If it was a topic that interested me - I'd continue going to the classes anyway to see what else I could learn, regardless of it's contribution to my final results.

Congrats Like cheez said, they're just jealous. They'll get over it.

And Adrian, usually if they let you go early, it's because you've covered the bulk of the material for the class and what is left won't be of much instructional value/new material. A lot of the time the classes after that point will be a lot of re-hashing and review for the final for the stupid people

    Too bad.

Failing the test == group study with lovely girls for the finals.

I had something similar happen in a college English class of mine. Two people in the class, myself included, got high enough scores on an initial test that we could opt to not attend any further classes in exchange for helping out (tutoring) at an elementary school for an hour each week. As much as I hate kids I hated English more so I took the deal. I don't remember any dirty looks from those that didn't do well enough to get offered the deal.

All class is for now is to work on the final. Along with Q and A for the professor if you forgot or missed anything. If he were going to cover more philosophers I definatly would keep going, but he isnt.

Your logic fails, for it assumes the initial presence of hot girls in the class.

I'm shocked lol. I can't believe you're in college. I'm in college also and I've never seen people react like that. Sometimes when someone aces a test or something I will say "nerd" or something similiar but it's all in good fun. Dirty looks makes them look like dirty people. Grats on your test.

I have that kind of experiences also. Although I am not a top student, most students jealous me whenever I get higher marks than theirs. Especially the students are who never come to class, who they think themselves so smart, who spend all the time for girls. I really really really hate them.

    CONGRATULATIONS for your highest scores!

Like others have said they are probably just jealous. They are just some random guys you have a class with, why do you care what they say/think?
