    Math Session #2

You have just made 81 coins. But soon after you realize that you made a lighter coin. How can you find out the lighter coin using only a balance 4 times?

Guillotines don't torture, they can't really...I mean, you won't feel anything after it comes crashing down...

Weighing 1: divide the 81 coins into three stacks of 27 and weigh any two. If one stack is lighter than the other, eliminate all the coins but that stack. If they're the same, keep the stack you didn't weigh instead.

Weighing 2: divide the 27 remaining coins into 3 groups of 9; repeat

Weighing 3: divide the 9 remaining coins in to 3 groups of 3; repeat

Weighing 4: weigh any 2 of the remaining coins. If one is lighter than the other, that's the defective coin. Othersie, the one you didn't weigh is the defect.
