    US Navy Seals

I have always wondered whether or not games such as SOCOM Navy Seals, Rainbow Six or other games where you play special forces.. if the people performing these jobs in real life are either excited by it.. irritated... happy.. I just want to know what the general feeling from the people in special forces in regards to video games about special forces.

Well if I were a Navy Seal and a game was very unrealistic I would be a little upset I guess. However, I read an article saying that when SOCOM was being developed they had actual Navy Seals shooting guns for sound effects and helping them with some different aspects. So I hear it's pretty accurate as far as that goes. I'm not sure about the other games though.

I would hate to think that we would produce a genre of games that irritates the very people who protect our country. After all what they do is nothing to take lightly.

games romanticize the jobs, the real guys probably just think that the kids playing have absolutely no clue what it's really like being a seal or swat member. the real jobs are probably hell. the book rainbow six seems pretty realistic in terms of how they describe training and the actual take downs, but it's like 700 pages (i've read it twice i think)

Every US navy battle ship is equiped with xbox and ps2 gaming consoles. Shipmates LOVE to spend off hours playing games of all sorts, including tactical shooters. I got this info from... A marine! every body "oooo" and "ahhhh" now.

The US military spends (your) tax dollars on Xboxes and PS2s? Let them make do with SNESes and Super Mario Kart, that's what I say!

But if they kill each other off then we don't have to spend as much money keeping them there

    And yes I'm kidding

But think of all the extra paperwork.

I understand that, I just was wondering if anyone had any other thoughts or if there just happened to be a special forces guy on the boards
