    MSDN April 2003 giveaway.

Has anybody managed to get a "Full" installation of the April 2003 MSDN giveaway to work?

I downloaded the 3 cd images, burnt them and tried to install. It kept failing on the last file on the second disk, xmlsql.HxS. It says check the file is present and readable. The file is present, but Windows certainly has trouble reading it.

So I burnt the image onto a different disk - same result. So I downloaded the image again, burnt it - same result.

If I do the "Regular" install, it works fine, but I wanted the full, "CD free" install so I didn't have to keep loading and unloading CD's.

    Anyone?

I downloaded them and gave them to my roommate. He said they worked fine no problem for him. Does it give you the option to skip the file? You could always get it from someone after you install the rest. He said he had to rename the files to get the cd-writer software to work correctly but you probably already know that since you're past that stage. Good luck.

No. Cancel or Retry only, Retry has the same result, Cancel, unwinds the whole install.

The "regular" install works fine - but you have to keep feeding cd's. Your room mate did a "Full" install?

My cd writer did not require me to rename the files, they are just as downloaded.

there is a program out there that mirrors a cd on your HD.
Let's say you copy the entire CD to your HD and then start that programme. you say to the programme, I want to use that CD and he starts up the programme throught the autorun funtion. It looks like you're running the programme with the cd, but in fact you're using the copy on your HD. So, no CD required.

Bad explantation, I know, but I hope you understand what I'm talking about

I think that could solve your problem, but sadly I don't remember the name (or if it is shareware)

    I'll look in to it

EDIT: it is called virtual cd. Unfortunetly, it isn't free. It has a 30 trial

Yup, I would hate to have to switch out those discs anytime I want to look something up on MSDN. He said he didn't have to do anything special either.

Well, I've downloaded the image 3 times now, burnt the image onto at least 3 different disks and tried to read the file with both of my machines CD-Drive and my DVD drive, always, that last file gives a bad block/read error.

I'm fated not to acheive this.

That is quite unfortunate. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have access to MSDN. The internet version is garbage imo. If there is anything I can do let me know on here or pm.

Just rename them to *.iso, and you can burn them with most burning software.

    Disc 1
    Disc 2
    Disc 3
Naturally I didn't feel inspired enough to read all the links for you, since I already slaved away for long hours under a blistering sun pressing the search button after typing four whole words! - Quzah

    Yay! 800KB/s!

This brings up another question, though.
The MSDN Library Subscription only contains the MSDN Library on CD/DVD, right? So would there be any advantage over purchasing an MSDN Library Subscription since they are releasing the April 2003 material?
