He's looking to see if anyone was affected on a personal level. Of course he can find out all the millions of people that were affected, but I don't think he's looking for that answer. Im in NY, i had some winds from it, but nothing too bad. I might get a storm out of it(not too bad).
Here in Philly we've only gotten some wind a rain. But back where my family and friends live, their power was out and school was cancelled.

Been through a a dozen or so Typhoons during my time in Okinawa. Even with a super typhoon came through the damage was minor. I can never understand why people live in an area that is known for hurricanes and not build their structures to with stand it.
I was right in the path of the storm outside of the DC area. My power flickered off and on a couple of times but other than that I must say I'm dissappointed in all the hype the weather people gave this storm. Just a bit of wind, an occasional strong gust and some rain.. that was all it was to me.

It's been raining here all day (MI), but I don't know if that's some effects from the edge of the hurricane, or just normal rain.
