My whole family have been using Halifax since god knows when. Never had any problems with them (apart from their really crap adverts).
Either Nat West or LLoyds-TSB because they have branches and machines everywhere. I've never seen an HSBC branch in the areas I've lived in.
This was, of course, 5+ years ago, so things light have changed. I still have a Lloyds-TSB account.

Hehe it is a cumulation of two of the bigger old banks, they are everywhere.I've never seen an HSBC branch
Go for the one that gives you the most, like more for your second, then final year etc.
Halifax is ok as Brian says, they made the transition to a bank very well.
See which gives you interest on credit balances, and dont look for 'tat' like a free beachball or something.
Most student a/c's are the same, but minimum you need is yearly increasing O/D facility, debit card and low credit limit credit card. You will need all these as a student because of the multitude of ways you can pay in a pub nowadays.
Unless of course you have tons of cash anyway.
Such is life.

I thought HSBC was the HongKong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. Is elsewhere in the world. Has a red and white logo.

Hehe aidrian, you may remember one of the old ones as 'Midland' Bank?
Such is life.
Halifax is now HBOS (Halifax Bank Of Scotland). Nice bank, worked there for over 4 months on EMV stuff.

Yeah I do. So they got taken over by HongKong and Shanghai. They use the HSBC red and white logo now?
The logo is at the top of this page which also says something about the history of HSBC.
